"Entertainment Weekly" comes to an end. The long-running program which has been around for almost 4 decades bid farewell to their avid viewers.
On November 4, speculations have arisen that "Entertainment Weekly" will air its last episode either later this month or early December. There are about four weeks of filming left but the entire cast has been seriously discussing the issue.
Poor audience ratings, such as the recent plunge to 2%, were cited as the main cause of the program's closure. In addition, KBS has chosen to prioritize "Hello Counselor" which has been running for the past nine years.
KBS said, "A lot of viewers have loved Entertainment Weekly and avidly watched it for 36 years. Unfortunately, we have decided to make a change. We would like to switch the production environment and format the existing program. We would also like to elaborate that we are not abolishing the program, rather, we just want to end it. As of now."
"In the first half of next year, we will produce entertainment programs with different formats and contents in line with recent trends." The entertainment company added.
"Entertainment Weekly" first aired in April 1984. It is the first entertainment program in Korea. The MCs and the panel communicated weekly entertainment information and pointed out problems throughout the entertainment industry.
