It was reported that South Korean celebrity stars' custom declarations have been leaked. According to the report, the leaked information revealed the documents of actress Song Hye Kyo, soccer player Ahn Jung Hwan, singer Kim Tae Won and Korean Japanese pianist Yang Bang Ean and others.
A reporter from SBS said on December 1, "A whistleblower has recently given us custom declaration documents of several public figures. These documents were said to be leaked by an official called Mr. Kim. He and his co-workers used to work at Gimpo and Incheon International Airport."
The custom officials including M. Kim kept the documents from 2011 to 2015 and were found recently. The custom declaration forms were submitted when the stars arrived in Korea. The customs declarations forms are discarded one month after those are submitted. However, Mr. Kim and others took the forms, taking pictures of them.
The Korea Customs Service stated that the leakage of the customs declaration documents is a violation of Clause 116 of the Customs Law pertaining to the confidentiality of taxation information. It also violates Clause 127 of the criminal law and the Personal Information Protection Act as well as a violation of the Personal Information Protection Act. The said individuals could be facing a maximum of five years sentence.
