On the 10th of January 2020, it was divulged that the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office had filed a request for a pretrial detention warrant for Seungri on seven charges. It was reported that the Seoul Central District Court has released its decision on the prosecution's pretrial detention warrant request for Seungri.

This January 13th, 2020 the head judge of the trial head judge Song Kyung Ho after interrogation the accused. He judge stated that in consideration of the contents of the criminal charges that have been presented, for the accused role, the degree of his involvement, and the room for contention within those charges with the progress of the investigation, the collection of evidence as well as the accused way of acting in cooperation with the investigation, the judge has decided that it is difficult to recognize the necessity for a pretrial detention.

This was actually the second time that the prosecution has requested a pretrial detention warrant for the accused Seungri. The first request was made way back in May 2019 which was also dismissed by the court.

In the year 2019, there were a lot of allegations concerning the club Burning Sun. This night club was built in the year 2018 and was founded by two CEO's naming Lee Moon-ho and Lee Seong-Hyun. The Singer Seungri was affiliated with this night club as a creative director/shareholder and also as the occasional DJ.

The allegations claimed were the use of drugs and the arrangement of sexual favors to the investors. The evidence of the KakaoTalk conversations of the singer with the co-founder of the night club and one of its employees was revealed by the media in relation to the accusation of prostitution. During a press release last March 4 it is reported that the authentic and unedited KakaoTalk conversations were not submitted according to the police. The famous singer Seungri also denied the accusations.

Seungri then declared on his Instagram account last March 11, 2019, that he will retire from the entertainment industry and stating that he will cooperate with the investigation fully. After the announcement, there was a consensual termination of his contract with his agency YG Entertainment on March 13.

On the 8th of May, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency requested an arrest warrant for Seungri after a sum of 17 closed-door police interrogations. The following charges were: Prostitution Mediation, Embezzlement of Burning Sun funds), and Monkey Museum's violation of the Food Sanitation Act. The next report was on the 14th of May, the Seoul District Court turned down the request for the arrest warrant saying that embezzlement, a major charge, is open for dispute. And it is hard to acknowledge the reasons for detention.

On the other hand, on June 25, 2019, the police reported that his case has already been forwarded to prosecution with seven charges.

  4. Embezzlement of club Burning Sun revenues
  5. The attempt at the destruction of evidence
  6. Distribution of illegally-filmed content via social platforms
