Currently, the police are reportedly investigating a text message that was sent to singer-songwriter Kim Gun Mo by "A" the woman who accused him of sexual assault. Last December 2019, the Garo Sero institute a YouTube channel reported a story of "A", who accused Kim Gun Mo of sexually assaulting her at an entertainment bar in Gangnam where she was working.
One of the hosts of the youtube channel Garo Sero Institute which is a lawyer named Kang Yong Suk filed a formal complaint against Kim Gun Mo. This host became the legal representative of "A". Since the news broke, other women also came forward claiming that singer-songwriter Kim Gun Mo also physically assaulted and sexually harassed them.
The South Korean daily newspaper company JoongAng Ilbo On February 3rd reported that the Seoul Gangnam Police Station had received the contents of a message sent by "A" that was saved on Kim Gun Mo's cell phone. It was sent last April 20017 that read "ㅋㅋㅋ (which is a sound for laughter) we're on the same plane ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ." Kim Gun Mo did not respond back to the message. This message that the accuser sent was eight months after the alleged assault happened way back August 2016.
Earlier from this report, lawyer Kang Yong Suk has declared that "A" at first tried to forget what had happened and just move on with her life. He also shared the story of "A" on running into Kim Gun Mo on a plane from Jeju Island in April 2017. The lawyer stated that "A" said that she saw Kim Gun Mo on the plane since they were on the same fight but be pretended that he did not know her.
Nevertheless, the accused Kim Gun Mo's representatives are pointing out that in this message that the said victim sent. It was evident that "A" had friendly feelings toward Kim Gun Mo and that this was not the behavior or reaction of a victim towards her attacker. Kim Gun Mo's representative also explained the reason that he did not reply was because he did not know who was sending him the message.
Gangnam Police Station's sources stated that at this time they cannot tell whether there are or are not grounds for suspicion against Kim Gun Mo based on just this text message. They also need to do further investigation on the context around the message.
The lawyer named Park Sung Min also explained that this message may seem an advantage for Kim Gun Mo's side but this is a situation that needs sensitivity to gender issues so it is actually hard to rule one way or another about the alleged crime.
According to some reports, "A" also sent other text messages to Kim Gun Mo. Way back March 2018, she mentioned the words "Me Too" movement and asked if he had any apology to make. Kim Gun Mo also did not respond to this message.
