On Wednesday, March 4, Sports Kyunghyang released a report that Seo In Guk will be the lead star in MBC's new drama 'Smoking Gun', although sources stated that the singer-actor clarified that it is not yet finalized as he is currently reviewing the offer.
'Smoking Gun' is an action-thriller drama that tells the story of a former South Korean agent who is suffering from a memory loss and a North Korean agent who is trying to chase and kill him. Expect the two characters to execute intense chase and brawls while the former tries to stop a brooding terrorism attack. The drama is penned by the renowned screenwriter Park Hye Jin, who wrote the popular romantic period drama "The Emperor: Owner of the Mask."
Granting that Seo In Guk approves to take the lead role, he will portray the character of Kim Do Young, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) analyst who ends up being the main suspect a crime, which will then and there pose a conflict as he suffers from memory loss. In this drama, he is trying to find out the truth and who is behind the scheme plotted against him.
It is known that this will be the actor's first-ever drama in two years since "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes' in 2018. This will also be his first MBC drama in four years following the "Shopping King Louie" in 2016. Seo In Guk's filmography also includes 'King of High School', 'Squad 38', 'Master's Sun', and 'Reply 1997'.
Seo In Guk was born on October 23, 1987 in Ulsan, South Korea. The singer and actor grew up in a poor household as his mother worked as a recyclables collector and his father as a welder. He has one younger sister.
At the age of 10, he decided to become a singer after being inspired by the Korean rock musician Kim Jung-min. He showcased his talent in singing at family gatherings and school events, and went on to study Applied Music at Daebul University. Eventually, he tried auditioning at entertainment agencies. After being rejected repeatedly and judged by his appearance, with some even telling him to lose weight, he struggled with bulimia for a time.
Fast forward to February 2017, it was announced that Seo In Guk received his official military enlistment date, which was set to take place on March 28. It was reported that the actor would enter his two-year military service peacefully without media coverage and publicity. The singer-actor then released a music video for his self-composed song, 'Better Together', written and dedicated to his fans. The video was released on March 26, 2017.
Seo In Guk suffered from a fractured ankle, so he was exempted from his mandatory military service just four days after enlisting and was scheduled for a medical re-examination to find out if he was fit to return to the military. Then, his agency released the results and found out that the actor is suffering from Osteochondritis dissecans, which is a bone and cartilage condition.
