The Korean-American actor Daniel Dae Kim who starred in international dramas like "Lost" and "Hawaii Five-0" is the latest celebrity to test positive for the COVID19 virus.
The actor who is also an executive producer of ABC's "The Good Doctor," released a statement about his diagnosis this Thursday in a tweet and an Instagram post. The actor is actually getting a lot of support from his friends in the industry including his "Lost" castmates Emilie de Ravin and Henry Ian Cusick who gave a response to his Instagram post.
In the Instagram post that has the recorded video of Daniel Dae Kim, he shared his experience with regards to the positive result of the COVID19. He also offers some good wishes to those who are reading his post. It stated that he hopes all of the people stay safe, calm and most of all healthy. As seen in the video, the actor is in a clad blue t-shirt and is sitting in his home in Hawaii. He also explains that he has to let go of his hairstyle, shaving and overall appearance the last few days, jokingly calling it the "quarantine chic."
Daniel Dae Kim explained that he first felt the symptoms while flying last weekend to Hawaii from New York where we were working and, ironically, he had been playing a doctor aiding with a flu pandemic for the NBC medical drama "New Amsterdam." At first, he felt scratchiness in his throat and later on, after isolating himself from family members at home he felt tightness in his chest and somebody aches his temperature went high.
Upon having a doctor's appointment, he was then advised to go to a Honolulu drive-through testing station the next day. He shared doing the test was painful, there was a swab inserted deep into his nose but for him, it was worth it. On Wednesday, he discovered a positive result in his COVID19 test and stated that he is feeling better "close to 100 percent."
The good news is his family members were also isolated and also went to take the COVID19 test and all resulted in negative. He also claimed that he had some concerns about sharing his experience because of some strong adverse reactions about celebrities receiving special treatment in testing. He stated that he never asked, expected or requested any special treatment from anyone.
He strongly believes that health care for all is a right, not a privilege. Daniel Dae Kim also said that it was more important to discuss to people about this experience and what he went through and to ask others, most especially young people who might not feel the effects of the illness as severely as their elders, to follow social distancing and other healthy behaviors to contain and stop the spread of the illness.
He says the main focus should be on treating and saving people, not on the place where coronavirus started.
