Lee Jae Wook recently poses for a pictorial shoot with fashion magazine Esquire and later on shared his thoughts about his career.
He sat down for an interview with Esquire and shared his thoughts about his entire acting career. One unique thing about Lee Jae Wook is that he doesn't check the scenes he has done once it has been approved by the director. He explained that it was his way of paying respect to his director.
He said, "You know when you pay so much attention to your appearance you tend to lose the emotion you needed to exert on that moment. For example, you miss your line or you lack emotion because you are worried you might not look goof on the camera. So when I think I didn't do good acting on a scene, I ask the director, 'Is it alright?' then if the director gives me an 'OK' but asks to retake it one more time, I just go with it and I don't doubt it."
When asked about how he feels about watching his dramas in front of his family, the actor answered, "Yes, it is super embarrassing and awkward because I cannot watch the kissing scenes with them. It's a bit uncomfortable and awkward especially in front of my mom. I would always exit to drink water or just go to my room."
When it comes to the actor's exposure to different roles including the ages, he said, "I have played a lot of different roles but I did not plan for that to happen, it just happened. As a rookie in the acting industry where a lot of other artists are so good in their crafts, I think I am not in a position to choose my next project. I am just really lucky. Of all the films I have done, playing Marco in 'Memories of the Alhambra' had me thought if when will I ever encounter another role like that, and then there I was playing the role of Baek Kyung in 'Extraordinary You', Seol Ji Hwan in 'Search: WWW' and now my latest role as Lee Jang Woo in 'I'll Go To You When the Weather Is Nice.' I am very grateful."
Lee Jae Wook also shared his experience when first auditioned for the film 'Memories of the Alhambra.' He said, "It was my first ever audition, so I went as a theater and film major and there are many people there who came along with their managers. Actually that time, I told the casting director not to pick me. Now that I remembered it, I think it was rude."
Laughing while remembering his memory on the day of the audition, "Of course I still did my best for that audition, and in the end the director said 'This is gonna be an expensive production, this film is gonna be highly anticipated by many people. This film will air in the second half of the year.' I got scared on the spot, so I told him not to pick me because I don't know anything. Fortunately for me, I was chosen."
Lee Jae Wook said he is in regret for his acting playing the role of Baek Kyung in "Extraordinary You" because he felt like he was not able to connect Baek Kyung to the viewers. "Indeed, Baek Kyung is someone who seemed so violent but if the viewers seem him that way, I think it is because I was not able to completely connect and portray the tragic life that Baek Kyung has experienced under the roof of his abusive father."
Moving on to his latest projects, Lee Jae Wook shared his current role in the drama "I'll Go To You When The Weather Is Nice." He shared that this role that he obtained is someone who is more realistic than the previous ones he had played.
Lee Jae Wook was asked if he has any similarities with his current role, he answered, "Lee Jang Woo and I are getting along very well. It's funny because I was able to connect my personality to this role. I get so inspired because of my friends who always show their support on my project."
The actor ended his interview with Esquire magazine by saying, "How should describe myself whenever I was in a play? I describe the feeling as 'being alive.'"
