What would it be like if Kim Soo Hyun made it to "Boys"?
Back in 2012, video clips of the actor auditioning for a role in "Boys Over Flowers" resurfaced on the internet. It was footage from 2009 in "MNet Japan BOF Making," showing the script reading with the cast members.
During the recording, Kim Soo Hyun was, of course, younger and can be seen sitting together with other Korean actors. The cast and directors were also taking part in the gathering.
"Boys Over Flowers" (2009) is the South Korean version of the Taiwanese hit series, "Meteor Garden." The cast that took the lead roles were Lee Min Ho, Ku Hye Sun, and F4 members Kim Hyun Joong, Kim Bum, and Kim Joon.
During that time, Kim Soo Hyun was supposed to cast for the dual role of Lee Jae Ha and Lee Min Ho. He took his part in reading the lines the way he prepared them.
However, on the part of the director, it wasn't the way he expected it to be. He asked Kim Soo Hyun to read and do it again. In the clip, one can recognize that Kim tried to lean over and further discuss the character and looked bewildered.
In the middle of his determination to justify the lines, the other actors broke into laughter. They seemed to have found something hilarious, and the young actor got cornered even more.
Although Kim Soo Hyun must have tried again to read the script, the director was not satisfied for whatever reason. The particular role Kim Soo Hyun was supposed to give life to was then given to Jung Eui Chul. It was then that he was not able to take part in the production.
The lost role in the said series served as a turning point in Kim Soo Hyun's life. Though it would have been a different story if he was part of the nationwide popularity of "Boys Over Flowers," he was able to take advantage of his unfortunate event.
In the same year, Kim Soo Hyun took part in "Will It Snow on Christmas?" which gave him the chance to showcase his acting skills. Many viewers gave a good impression on his performance and soon made him an actor for other roles.
He took another role in the drama series "Giant," which landed Kim Soo Hyun a Best New Actor Award at the SBS Drama Awards.
Kim Soo Hyun built the foundation of his acting skills. After his performance in "Dream High," new opportunities kept pouring in. The said drama became popular across borders and won numerous awards for the cast.
In his hard work and determination, his popularity skyrocketed as he starred in "Moon Embracing The Sun." He contributed his part in vocals in the drama soundtrack.
And the rest is history. Now, he stars in "It's Okay to Not Be Okay," and he's currently considered one of the most sought-after actors of his generation.
