Popular and long-running variety show "2 Days & 1 Night" bounced back after a set of controveries halted the filming of Season 3. However, a new set of cast joined in for Season 4, which was launched late last year.
The new season kicked off with new faces and the reasons why almost half of the group before them left. The third season took a pause early last year when some of the cast members quit, and controversies over one hosts put the whole show in the spotlight.
That previous season was topping the ratings and constantly surpassed 15%, which is exceptionally high for a Korean variety show. The production made a name as well as the cast members since the show even won various awards. It includes the "Viewers Choice Best Program" at the 2016 KBS Entertainment Awards.
The program in 2018 received a Presidential Commendation from the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism for the show's effort in promoting tourism since 2007.
Viewers enjoyed and supported the cast as they made any situation fun and hilarious. The cast of Season 3 was Cha Tae Hyun, Kim Jong Min, Kim Joon Ho, Kim Joo Hyuk, Jung Joon Young, and Defconn.
"2 Days & 1 Night" premiered in December 2013, and due to controversies, the management stopped the production in March 2019.
The first cast member who got involved with the "Burning Sun" scandal was Jung Joon Young, who was discovered to have been illegally documenting women for many years. They found out that he would distribute these videos and pictures to people in a group chat.
In the same group chat was Cha Tae Hyun and Kim Jun Ho, who had allegations of golf gambling in large amounts. It caused controversy since any form of gambling is illegal in South Korea. They were then forced to leave the show, and with immediate effect, they were taken out.
Unlike their predecessors, Season 1 and Season 2 had traditional farewell episodes. Season 3 marked and abrupt end as decided by the production team and management.
After quite some time, the management launched "2 Days & 1 Night" Season 4 in November 2019, with cast members Kim Jong Min, Yeon Jung Hoon, Moon Se Yoon, Kim Seon Ho, DinDin, and VIXX's Ravi.
Though the new season since it was launched had a hard time making 2-digit ratings in Korea, the good thing is that the newly hired cast and the production team begin to be closer to one another.
