Detective and crime dramas may sometimes drag at an early part of the show, but JTBC ensures viewers will get hooked with their latest, "The Good Detective."

On its eighth episode's broadcast on July 28, the drama recorded its highest rating with 5.1% nationwide and 6.3% in the metropolitan area. It maintained its No. 1 position in Seoul, according to Nielsen Korea.

Since its premiere, the show remained in its 4% and above ratings from its Monday-Tuesday lineup series.

Spoiler alert!

"The Good Detective" tells the story of a prisoner who got embroiled in the death of a college student and a police officer. He was a powerless man living with his only daughter, who suffers from epileptic seizures.

After five years, detective Oh Ji Hyuk, played by Jang Seung Ho, was transferred to the station and helped Do Chang correct the mistakes of the improper investigation he did with the other perpetrators.

Dae Chul's only daughter, Eun Hye, begged Do Chang to save his father since she believed his father's confession that he is innocent.

Detective Ji Hyuk found concrete evidence that would lead Oh Jung Tae (played by Oh Jung Se), a wealthy businessman, to be the murderer of the college student. With Jung Tae's connection and wealth, he was able to persuade the Ministry of Justice to turn the case around.

The latest episode showed that Dae Chul got a retrial for his death penalty case. Do Chang and his criminal unit team tried their best to prove that he is innocent.

But it did not work as planned. One witness was sent abroad, and the others were asked to make their statements in court, pointing Dae Chul as the killer.

At the end of the episode, Dae Chul accepted to have murdered one police officer who harassed him five years ago. This turns the defendant and his team into losing their case.

The prosecutor insisted that Dae Chul was still a criminal, and though he did not kill the college student, he is responsible for one life that was lost.

The President and the court approved the death penalty. Dae Chul died the next day as what the jury decided on his case.

Do Chang and Ji Hyuk felt miserable and devastated for not being able to save Dae Chul.

The second half of the drama is expected to unearth more revelations who the real culprit is, the person who killed Jin Soo. Will Oh Jung Tae (Oh Jung Se) be out of the picture since the police know that he is the last person with Jin Soo the night she died?

Watch "The Good Detective" every Monday and Tuesday night.
