The 2010 Korean film "The Man From Nowhere" starring Won Bin is gearing towards Hollywood, and the people behind the successful "John Wick" film franchise are planning to recreate it.
Reported by Deadline, one of Hollywood's entertainment news channels, director Chad Stahelski and writer Derek Kolstad will collaborate to produce the movie. The two were also responsible for the success of all three "John Wick" films. As released, Stahelski and Kolstad are excited for the upcoming U.S. remake of the 2010 smash hit Korean movie "The Man From Nowhere."
The screenwriter Derek Kolstad will start writing the script for the remake while Chad Stahelski is said to produce the upcoming film together with Jason Spitz. It will be under their production banner 87Eleven Entertainment. According to Deadline, the executives of the production team had very high expectations of the script since Kolstad is writing it. When it was finally delivered, they all planned on meeting with directors for the execution of the plans.
Won Bin's "The Man From Nowhere" became the highest-grossing movie in South Korea back in 2010. It is a dark and gritty action film where a mysterious man takes on a trafficking ring to save a young child who becomes his only friend. Though it was rated 18+, the film managed to draw over 6.17 million moviegoers to theaters.
During its release in the U.S. and Canada, the Indian remake of the film, "Rocky Handsome," was also shown at the same time. The Korean film received positive reviews from the American critics. It holds 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Two years after the film was released, it kept gaining recognition. In 2013, six critics including Russell Edwards have excellent reviews of the film.
Won Bin received five Best Actor awards as Cha Tae Sik for the said film from different awarding bodies around South Korea. This also served as Won Bin's last film and on-screen appearance. Since then, the actor is particular about getting any projects, whether in film and drama.
The said movie still gives new inspiration to many viewers even after ten years of its release. The whole cast compliments each other forming amazing chemistry, and it's one of Korea's top films in history.
