Lee Jung Hyun's mother sadly has passed away at the age of 73.

PineTree Entertainment Lee Jung Hyun's agency released a statement informing everyone that the mother of South Korean singer and actress Lee Jung Hyun had passed away on the morning of Jan. 29.

According to reports, Lee Jung Hyun's mother died due to an underlying illness. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the family has decided that the funeral will be held privately with only family members in attendance.

Lee Jung Hyun's Beginnings and Previous Works

South Korean pop singer and actress Lee Jung Hyun was born on Feb. 7, 1980. The celebrity is well known by her stage name Ava. The 40-year-old celebrity was first recognized for her acting abilities with her award-winning role in her first film. Her fame continued to soar with her illustrious singing career.

Lee Jung Hyun is dubbed as "the Techno Queen" since she was the one who introduced the techno music genre to Korea. She is also called the "The Queen of Transformation" because she always wears different looks for her different songs. Further, she is popular as one of the first artists who introduced the Korean Wave (Hallyu) to China and caused an international buzz.

Lee Jung Hyun started her acting career at the young age of 16 through the 1996 film titled "A Petal," where she bagged the "Best New Actress" at the 34th Grand Bell Awards, 17th Blue Dragon Film Awards, and 16th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards. This film centers its story on a girl who experienced the Gwangju uprising when she was only 15 years old and it affected her life in later years.

Since her acting debut in 1996, Lee Jung Hyun starred in numerous projects which were featured in South Korea, Japan as well as in China. Fast forward to the year 2010, the singer and actress regained her acting strides with the Chinese series Confucius where she starred as Nanzi.

In 2011, she portrayed the character of a Shaman (a person regarded as having access to, and influence in, the world of good and evil spirits) in the award-winning fantasy short film "Night Fishing."

Fun fact: the film was actually shot entirely on an iPhone! The film was able take home the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival.

In 2015, the actress starred in the black comedy film "Alice in Earnestland," where she also took home the "Best Actress" at the 36th Blue Dragon Film Awards & 3rd Wildflower Film Awards.

In 2016, starred in the bowling film "Split," and by 2017, Lee Jung Hyun starred in the war film "The Battleship Island."
