Joo Won Rumored to Star in Netflix Movie "Carter"

Back in February, multiple reports cited that Joo Won was courted to star in a Netflix film.

At the time, a representative from his agency, Santa Claus Entertainment, confirmed that the "My Sassy Girl" actor was offered to star in "Carter."

"Our artist Joo Won received an offer to be part of the upcoming Netflix film 'Carter'. But there was no confirmation yet if he will be accepting the role or not," the agency stated.

Prior to his new project with Netflix, the Baeksang Arts winner made his major drama comeback after completing military service in 2019. He starred as the main cast for the hit sci-fi mystery drama "Alice," alongside veteran actress Kim Hee Sun.

Joo Won took the role of Park Jin Gyeom, a detective who discovered time travelers' existence and their ability to witness the present day through a space called Alice. This allows him to reunite with a woman named Yoon Tae Yi, played by Kim Hee Sun, a genius physicist who holds the key to time travel.

Although she has died in the past, Park Jin Gyeom insists that meeting her again is a form of fateful reunion. While they figure out the secret of time travel together, Yoon Tae-Yi discovers the dark secret behind her.

"K-Wave" Dominates the International Scene

The South Korean film industry welcomed 2021 with a loud bang.

Earlier this year, Netflix revealed its plan to spend nearly $500 million to produce more movies and series as the global market continues to embrace the South Korean entertainment industry.

In a report cited by The Hollywood Reporter, Minyoung Kim, Netflix's Vice President of content for Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, explained the "K-Wave, or Hallyu" has been receiving massive recognition not just in the country but across the globe.

"Audiences around the world are falling in love with Korean stories, artists, and culture," she mentioned, adding that it is a "huge moment of national pride, and we're proud to be part of it."
