Promoting Korean culture through ballet, the Korean Cultural Center Washington DC continues with the second half of Korean National Ballet Creative Performance Series.
The second set of contemporary ballet performances will feature Hoi Rang starting this Friday, May 14 at 8:00 PM and will continue up until Sunday, May 16, 8:00 PM.
Hoi Rang is an original work by the Korean National Ballet, following the story of Rang through the lenses of early 20th century journalist Jang Ji-yeon in his compilation book Ilsayusa published during the brief period of the Korean Empire (1897-1910).
In the story, Rang disguises herself as a man to join the army in place of her aging father who could no longer respond to the summons. A brave and crafty heroine, Rang achieved her own goals and led her nation to victory. Hoi Rang is an epic ballet production that adds a layer of artistic imagination to the classical story of filial piety. The choreography for the play was created by Kang Hyo-Hyung, a soloist and emerging choreographer with the Korean National Ballet. Adding to the quality of the production are skilled performers and members, both on and off stage.
Hoi Rang follows KCCDC's previous offering, Heo Nan Seol Heon - Su Wol Kyung Hwa. which ran last Friday (May 7) until Sunday (May 9). The Korean National Ballet Creative Performance Series is a collaboration between the Korean Cultural Center, both in Washington, DC and in New York, and the Korean National Ballet. The limited-time program featuring Korean epics aims to introduce audiences in the US to "exceptional contemporary and creative performances by Korea's premier ballet from recent years."
Performances premiere on Friday through the Korean National Ballet YouTube Channel and remains available for only 48 hours until Sunday evening.
