Jo Byeong Gyu remains loyal to his agency, HB Entertainment.

"The Uncanny Encounter" actor will continue to work under the talent management after officially renewing his contract.

In a statement released by Jo Byeong Gyu's agency, HB Entertainment shared that the 25-year-old actor signed an exclusive contract after wrapping up his latest drama.

"We signed a new contract after the OCN K-Drama 'The Uncanny Counter' ended. Although he had quite a bit of his contract remaining, we decided to renew the contract in advance," the management mentioned as obtained by Sports Kyunghyang.

Jo Byeong Gyu Bullying Controversy

The South Korean actor rose in the entertainment industry, all thanks to his appearance in the KBS drama "Who Are You: School 2015".

After his successful acting debut, he landed on several notable dramas including "Sky Castle," which is considered his claim to fame.

This was followed by "Hot Stove League," where he won Best New Actor in the SBS Drama Awards 2020 and led the cast in the popular series "The Uncanny Counter".

Unfortunately, his 10-year long career in showbiz was tainted by controversy after he was accused of school bullying.

Back in February 2021, an online post circulated claiming that the actor's former classmate was victimized by Jo Byeong Gyu during their high school years in New Zealand.

To recall, the "He Is Psychometric" actor spent middle school in New Zealand, where he became a soccer player.

He then moved to South Korea at the end of his second year of middle school and entered Anyang Arts High School.

In the online post, the alleged victim claimed that Jo Byeong Gyu forced them to accompany him and his friend to karaoke and pay for everything.

Moreover, his former classmate revealed that the actor would hit him with the microphone when he refused to sing.

Jo Byeong Gyu's Agency Denied the Allegation

Amid the allegation, Jo Byeong Gyu's agency, HB Entertainment, stood by the actor and even described the online posts as "malicious comments."

In their lengthy statement, the management revealed that they filed a "criminal complaint seeking punishment for illegal acts" adding that HB Entertainment also "requested an investigation" on the matter.

Moreover, the agency also denied and pointed out that they will not welcome hateful comments.

Seemingly, the "Arthdal Chronicles" actor also addressed the issue and said that he "can't tolerate" the malicious comments being thrown at him.

On Jo Byeong Gyu's Instagram, he posted his statement denying the school bullying allegations and says that he has been victimized by harassment.

"I'm not someone who has never hurt anyone, and I didn't get along with everyone like a saint while growing up. At times, people took my money away just because I was small, and there have been times when I was assaulted. Does that make me a victim now?"

In a lengthy statement, he also noted that his "10-year career has already collapsed" and all of his upcoming projects were put on hold due to the issue.

Following the controversy, Jo Byeong Gyu's forthcoming drama "The Uncanny Encounter 2," is rumored to air sometime in 2022.
