tvN unveils a new team up for upcoming K-Drama "Melancholia" starring Lee Do Hyun and Im Soo Jung.
The broadcasting network confirmed the appearance of the duo, who are expected to build unique on-screen chemistry.
Back in April, Lee Do Hyun's Agency, Yuehwa Entertainment Korea, shared that the "Sweet Home" star is being courted to star in a new series and is "considering" the offer.
At the time, Im Soo Jung's agency King Kong by Starship revealed that the actress is also "positively discussing the appearance."
Melancholia Cast, Release, and Synopsis
The soon-to-be-released tvN drama is helmed by "Extraordinary You" and "True Beauty" director Kim Sang Hyeop, together with "Doctor John" scriptwriter Kim Ji Woon.
Following the confirmation of lead stars, the forthcoming K-drama is slated to premiere on October 20 every Wednesday Thursday.
"Melancholia" follows the story of a math teacher and a student at a prestigious high school in Gangnam who found themselves in the middle of a controversy.
The scandal includes being caught up in student-teacher relationships, which is totally forbidden in campuses and universities.
Lee Do Hyun takes on the role of Baek Seung Yoo, a math genius who was known for his intelligence.
In the drama, Baek Seung Yoo captured the public's attention after winning several quiz programs at the age of five and was able to enter MIT at the age of 10; however, people are baffled as to why the math genius decides to drop out at 12.
Interestingly, he finds comfort and joy in photography and would often be seen alongside his DSLR.
Meanwhile, the "Chicago Typewriter" star is set to portray middle and high school math teacher Ji Yoon Soo.
The beloved teacher encourages her students to learn how to love the subject by teaching them the beauty of numbers and the joy of solving problems.
Im Soo Jung's K-Drama Comeback and Upcoming Movie
"Melancholia" will be Im Soo Jung's comeback on the small screen following the success of her 2019 K-drama "Search: WWW" alongside Lee Da Hee, Jeon Hye Jin, Jang Ki Yong, Lee Jae Wook, and more.
Aside from her tvN series, the 41-year-old actress is set to star in an upcoming melodrama movie "Single in Seoul" with South Korean heartthrob Lee Dong Wook.
Lee Do Hyun Dramas
On the other hand, Lee Do Hyun recently wrapped up the KBS melodrama "Youth of May" alongside his "Sweet Home" co-star Go Min Si.
Apart from "Melancholia," the 26-year-old actor is confirmed to lead a forthcoming action thriller K-drama "Hounds" alongside Kwak Dong Yeon.
Based on the popular webtoon "Hunting Dogs," the upcoming drama is set to release exclusively on Netflix.
This will be the second time that Lee Do Hyun appears in a Netflix series following the mega-hit K-zombie "Sweet Home" with Song Kang.
