Another South Korean movie made its way to the box office after "Hostage: Missing Celebrity" starring Hwang Jung Min, hit a remarkable achievement.

The interesting storyline and incredible cast lineup piqued the fans' interest, creating a massive buzz in the industry.

According to the Film Promotion Committee, the thriller crime film garnered 97,226 spectators on its first day of release and climbed to the top spot at the box office.

With this, "Hostage: Missing Celebrity" eclipsed the reign of Lee Kwang Soo's movie "Sinkhole," which slid down to the second spot, ending its perfect streak since its debut.

The movie reportedly garnered 59,334 moviegoers on that day and a cumulative total audience of 1,28,653.

The disaster-comedy film recently achieved an impressive accomplishment after cementing its status in the box office for seven days straight.

In addition, the Kim Ji Hoon-directed film became the first K-movie "Sinkhole" in 2021 to sell one million tickets in the shortest time.

As for the current third place in the box office, Jo In Sung's "Escape from Mogadishu" sits next to "Sinkhole" with 35,897 visits and a cumulative total of over 2,500,000.

'Hostage: Missing Celebrity' Cast, Synopsis and Everything You Need to Know

Directed and written by Pil Gam Seong, the newly released film follows a famous actor Jeong Min, played by "Deliver Us From Evil" star Hwang Jung Min.

The movie began after Jeong Min attended a VIP premiere. After a few drinks and chats, he decides to go home.

Shortly after buying anti-hangover pills at a local convenience store, he was caught in an altercation with young gangsters in the area.

Unfortunately, a group of unidentified men took this chance to kidnap him.

Jeong Min was taken to a remote mountain where it is almost impossible to escape. Initially, he thought that this was a prank, but he witnessed the abductor's cruelty which made him realize that the situation is no joke.

The plot thickens as the kidnappers ask for a huge ransom within 24 hours and threatens to hurt him if he doesn't cooperate.

This stimulates the curiosity of the viewers on how he would escape his life-and-death struggle.

Apart from the versatile actor, "Hostage: Missing Celebrity" cast members include Shin Hyun Jong as Team Leader Kwak, "Nevertheless" actress as young Hye Won as well as Kang Deok Joong, Han Kyu Won, Ji Nam Hyuk, and more.

The thriller crime movie is Hwang Jung Min's comeback on the big screen after the 2020 blockbuster film "Return" with "Signal" star Kim Hye Soo.

In the press conference to promote the film, the veteran actor shared that he had fun and enjoyed filming the movie.

He mentioned that it was interesting to see the viewpoint of his own kidnapping in the script.

"I thought that audiences would be confused, wondering to what extent the film is a documentary or a fictional story. This made me become curious and want to do the film," he mentioned as obtained by the Korean Herald.

Moreover, he also revealed that in "Hostage: Missing Celebrity," the 50-year-old star admitted that it was "difficult" to play his character because it "somewhat reflects" himself.

"I was not sure how much of myself I should put into the character. I had lots of discussions with the director," he explained.
