The popularity of Netflix's "Squid Game" is increasing day by day as the nine-part episode series eclipses HBO's "Game of Thrones" on YouTube.
It seems like the Korean series is more popular than the American fantasy drama tv series, at least on video-sharing site after the Hwang Dong Hyuk Kdrama set another record.
Sorry 'Game of Thrones,' 'Squid Games' Just Gained 17 Billion Views on YouTube
In a report cited by Variety, content analytics firm Vobile noted that the mega-hit Korean series eclipses the HBO tv show with 17 billion views on YouTube, which came from 129,000 uploaded videos.
The outlet also explained that the YouTube clips include official trailers and "fan recreations of iconic moments, real-world challenges inspired by the plot, and even narration of user-generated video games based on the property."
It is a tight race with another blockbuster series, "Game of Thrones," that garnered 16.9 billion views with an estimated 233 million engagements from 420,000 uploaded videos.
Created by D. B. Weiss and David Benioff for HBO and released in 2011, the epic fantasy series is based on "A Song of Ice and Fire" written by American novelist and screenwriter George R. R. Martin.
Due to its stunning visuals and a roster of talented stars, "Game of Thrones" became a massive hit as the cast included Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, and more.

Which 'Squid Game' Related Video Gained Most YouTube Views?
As of this writing, the "Squid Game" trailer posted by Netflix on their official YouTube account reached over 40 million views.
However, according to outlets, the 52-second clip titled "Challenge the squid game sugar pie, can you challenge success?" is the most popular "Squid Game" related video gaining more than 78 million views.
It was followed by "Kermit in Squid Game," with 73 million views and counting.

"Squid Game" stars Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, Wi Ha Joon, Jung Ho Yeon, and more with the special participation of award-winning actor Lee Byung Hun and Hallyu star Gong Yoo.
The Netflix series follows the story of 456 cash-strapped contestants to take home the grand prize of a whopping 45.6 billion KRW or 38 million USD.
However, before bagging the staggering cash prize, players must participate in six rounds of games; unfortunately, the catch here is losers will be killed while the winners must continue to play the children's themed survival game.
In the drama, Lee Jung Jae portrayed player no 456 Seong Gi Hoon, who is forced to participate in the game to cover up his ballooning debt and to keep his daughter in South Korea.
At the game, he gets reunited with his longtime friend, player no. 218 Cho Sang Woo, played by "Prison Playbook" star Park Hae Soo.
"Squid Game" cast also welcomed the newcomer Jung Ho Yeon who became an instant breakout star after taking the role of North Korean Kang Sae Byeok, a.k.a player no. 067.
