"Navillera," starring Song Kang and Park In Hwan, is among the webtoon-based 2021 K-dramas that struck the hearts of fans with its heartwarming story.
The tvN series follows the story of a 70-year-old Shim Deok Chul, whose lifelong dream is to become a ballet dancer.
A grandfather and a retired post office employee, he realized that he needs to fulfill his wish before he dies--and that is to perform on stage, dancing to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake."
Interestingly, he crossed paths with an amateur ballet dancer Lee Chae Rok and was immediately captivated by how graceful he performed.
Since then, despite their rough start, both have had a great connection and illustrate a friendship that transcends time.
In her previous interview, Song Kang shared his preparations for the role of Lee Chae Rok.
One fun fact about the Kdrama is that the "Sweet Home" star spent six months inside the ballet studio to train technical moves and focus on his movement.
Apart from this, it appears that being flexible is in their genes since his father was a former gymnast.
As for the veteran actor mentioned that playing a 70-year-old ballet dancer was relatively new to him, given that as he gets older, he usually plays the father or grandfather characters.
"However, Deok-Chul is at the center of the story in Navillera. That's what's most different from the characters I've played before," he said in an interview with Pinkvilla.
With months since the healing Kdrama bid its goodbye to viewers, let's look at Song Kang, Park In Hwan and the rest of the "Navillera" cast and their current and soon-to-be-released shows in the coming year.
Song Kang (Lee Chae Rok)
Right after wrapping up the tvN Kdrama, Song Kang headlined the cast of another webtoon-based series, "Nevertheless" with Han So Hee.
The JTBC series gained an overwhelming response from the viewers because of the complicated romance portrayed by their characters Park Jae Eon and Yu Na Bi.
Apart from it, the South Korean heartthrob is slated to star in an upcoming melodrama with Park Min Young in "Meteorological Agency People: The Cruelty of Office Romance."
Rumor sparked that it might be released in the first quarter of 2022.
