In 2012, the actor shared to Korea JoongAng Daily that he considered losing weight after judges at JYP Entertainment warned him about his appearance.
Initially, Seo In Guk's body was on the overweight side and given that he wanted to enter the entertainment industry, he was asked to shed some pounds, but it ended up badly.
He revealed that he became obsessed with weight loss and that it took a toll on his health.
"After every meal, I'd vomit so that I could lose weight," he said.
After achieving his ideal weight, he came back to the label but got rejected again, saying that his "singing had worsened" after damaging his vocal cords due to vomiting.
His achievement in "Superstar K" helped him boost his self-esteem and gain confidence to face the audience.
Now, Seo In Guk is considered one of the bankable stars and sought-after leading men in the Hallyu world.

This is because he "doesn't have a nice body line by nature," hence, he had to work on this for the movie.
