‘Squid Game’ Scores 4 Nominations at the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards, Makes History as the First Non-English Language Drama to be Nominated

It has been months since the phenomenal K-drama "Squid Game" took the world by storm. After bringing pride to its homeland, the series continues to receive more recognition in different parts of the world. In fact, "Squid Game" got four major nominations at the prestigious Screen Actors Guild Awards in the United States!

'Squid Game' Receives Nominations from the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards

2022 has just begun but the "Squid Game" team keeps on winning as the series and its cast consistently receive merit in different foreign countries.

On January 12, another big news surprised the public after Screen Actos Guild (SAG) Awards officially released the names of nominees for this year, and Netflix's "Squid Game" made new history as it became the first non-English language TV series to be nominated for an award.

In 2020, it was "Parasite" that became the first foreign-language film to win a major award at the SAG Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

This year, the K-drama managed to be nominated in four different categories namely Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, which is said to be the top prize in the drama category. The series will compete with "Succession," "Yellowstone," "The Handmaid's Tale," and "The Morning Show."

For the second category, model-turned actress Jung Ho Yeon is nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series and is in a tight competition against Sarah Snook for "Succession," Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon for "The Morning Show," and Elisabeth Moss for "The Handmaid's Tale."

Lee Jung Jae also made it and snagged nomination for the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series and he will be going up against the "Succession" cast Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Brian Cox, and Billy Crudup of "The Morning Show."

Lastly, "Squid Game" is nominated for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series.

These are other additional achievements for the cast and all the staff worked to produce such award-winning pieces.

Recently, Oh Young Soo who played the iconic role of Oh Il Nam in the series became the first-ever Korean actor to win Best Supporting at Golden Globes Awards. Meanwhile, "Squid Game" and Lee Jung Jae also earned nominations for Best Television Series Drama and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series Drama.
