K-drama's beloved grandmother Kim Young Ok is headlining her first-ever lead role movie "Take Care of Mom."
Interestingly, this is the veteran actress' first big break on the big screen after starring in supporting roles for movies, such as "Casa Amor: Exclusive for Ladies," "Granny's Got Talent," and comedy film "Makgeolli Girls."
'Take Care of Mom' Release Date, Cast and Plot
The upcoming movie is a family drama that focuses on the 85-year-old woman named Ms. Lim, played by Kim Young Ok.
"Take Care of Mom" is all about the struggles and heartaches of an old woman and her relationship with strangers whom she treats as her family.
Joining the veteran actress are "Military Prosecutor Doberman" star Kim Young Min, park Sung Yun from "Red Single Heart" and special appearance of Lee Joo Mi.
According to reports, Kim Young Ok's new film "Take Care of Mom" is set to hit the big screen in April.
Being one of the oldest active actors in the entertainment industry, the upcoming drama movie piques the viewers' interest, especially with her first-ever lead role in her 65-years of acting.
Kim Young Ok's Famous Drama
Throughout her six-year decade career as an actress, Kim Young Ok captivated the heart of every K-drama fan with her superb acting skills.
Being the well-loved "halmeoni," the 84-year-old actress appeared in a slew of notable series.
She portrayed Kim So Hyun's grandmother in "Love Alarm" and Seo In Guk's loving grandmother in "Shopping King Louie."
Kim Young Ok also worked with Lee Min Ho in two K-dramas. First is with the 2009 series "Boys Over Flowers" followed by "The King: Eternal Monarch" in 2020.
Of course, who would forget Kim Young Ok's significant role as Supervisor Kim Gam Ri in "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha," which stars Kim Seon Ho and Shin Min Ah.

Interestingly, she is also part of the blockbuster Netflix K-drama "Squid Game," where she played Lee Jung Jae's doting mother, Oh Mal Soon.
Her last appearance was with Jun Ji Hyun and Ju Ji Hoon's thriller series "Jirisan." She portrayed Seo Yi Kang's (Jun Ji Hyun) halmeoni, who owns a restaurant in the village.
Kim Young Ok's 50-Year Friendship with Byun Hee Bong
The veteran actress once spoke about her friendship with fellow veteran star Byun Hee Bong in TV Chosun's documentary "My Way."
At the time, Kim Young Ok flaunted her 50-year-friendship with the award-winning actor, saying that he was her only male friend.
Recalling their early days as an actor, the "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha" actress shared that she and Byun Hee Bong did "multiple plays in the late '60s" and "worked together in the theatrical company Sanha."
As the documentary continues, the 79-year-old actor went on to describe Kim Young Ok as "calm and stoic," to which she replied, "my style of talking was like that."
Kim Young Ok and Byun Hee Bong are among a few South Korean stars who retained their undeniably strong friendship through the years.
