Oscar Winner Youn Yuh Jung earned praises from "Pachinko" director Kogonada for her magnificent performance in the upcoming Apple TV+ miniseries.
Set for release on March 25, critics and media outlets have been raving about the eight-part episode series, noting the stellar performance of the cast and how the story beautifully unfolds.
Based on the New York Times best-seller novel of the same name written by Min Jin Lee, it follows the story of a Korean family that immigrated to Japan in the 1990s.
The story unfolds through Sunja's forbidden love after her unplanned pregnancy threatens to shame her family. Abandoned by her family and lover, she was saved by a young tubercular minister with an offer to marry her and bring her to Japan.
She then becomes the matriarch of a family who is famous for operating pachinko parlors or known as gambling devices in Japan.
Veteran actress, Youn Yuh Jung, took on the role of Sunja. Once again, the Oscar winner never failed to deliver an impeccable portrayal with her delicate and emotional acting.
'Pachinko' Director Praises Youn Yuh Jung's Magnificent Performance
In an interview with "Pachinko" director Kogonada with Sports Chosun, he lauded the actress, saying that working alongside the 74-year-old actress was a "special experience" for him.
Moreover, he mentioned how "amazed" he is at every moment watching her act in front of the camera, giving life and depth to the character.
Director Kogonada was not the only one moved by Youn Yuh Jung's acting. Even executive producer Michael Ellenberg expressed his admiration for the award-winning actress, pointing out that she was like a "gift" to them, calling her the great "support" for "Pachinko.
Apart from the Oscar winner, "Pachinko" cast includes Lee Min Ho, who will play a mysterious merchant named Hansu, who finds himself on an illicit romance, while fellow Korean star Minha Kim will be playing the teenage Sunja.

Apart from the duo, the "Fast & Furious 9" actress Anna Sawai is joining the cast, taking the role of savvy career woman, Naomi.
Viewers will also be seeing some familiar faces, including Jin Ha, who is famous for his role in the TV series "Devs and Love Life" and the "Hamilton" musical, alongside Japanese actor Soji Arai, Kaho Minami and more.
As mentioned, "Pachinko" is set to be released on March 25 exclusively on Apple TV+.
Youn Yuh Jung Returns to the Small Screen with New Drama 'Trees Die on Their Feet'
Apart from the highly anticipated mini-series, the veteran actress is making a comeback in K-dramaland.
Youn Yuh Jung is joining the star-studded cast of "Trees Die on Their Feet" alongside Son Ye Jin, Kang Ha Neul, Sung Dong Il and Jung Hae In.
Rumored to premiere in the second half of 2022, the upcoming KBS series follows the story of an elderly woman from North Korea, who meets a theater actor, posing as her grandson.
He fulfills her final wish since she doesn't have much time to live.
"Trees Die on Their Feet" will be Youn Yuh Jung's return to the small screen after the 2019 family drama "Never Twice."
