Youn Yuh Jung shared her unforgettable experience filming the star-studded Apple TV+ series "Pachinko."
While the global audience knew the veteran actress as the grandmother in "Minari," the 74-year-old actress is well known in South Korea for raking tons of recognitions. This includes 25 Best Supporting actress trophies.
Interestingly, she made history in 2021 after becoming the first Korean actor to win an acting Oscar.
Following her historic win, Youn Yuh Jung will have her Apple TV+ debut with the upcoming mini-series "Pachinko."
This is How Youn Yuh Jung Reacted After Being Told to Audition for 'Pachinko'
The cast members, alongside directors and producers of the upcoming Apple TV+ series, graced the press conference to talk about the much-awaited release.
At the media gathering, Youn Yuh Jung gets honest and reveals her reaction upon being told that she had to audition for the role.
According to a Korean media outlet, the award-winning actress was baffled and could not understand why she was asked to audition despite acting for decades.
The veteran actress pointed out how American culture is used to this activity but mentioned that "it's not familiar with Koreans."
"If I audition and say 'I don't think I'm suitable for this role, our industry will claim that 'Youn Yuh Jung failed the audition,' she pointed out, adding that she couldn't lose her 50-year-acting career because of one role.
Because of this, You Yuh Jung revealed that she "threw out eight scripts in front of the entrance" and was eventually invited by the casting officials, asking her to be a part of the project.

The 74-year-old actress is a legend in South Korea for starring and bagging numerous recognitions since her debut in the 70s.
Interestingly, "Pachinko" is her comeback to the small screen after the 2019 series "Never Twice."
In the upcoming AppleTV+ series, You Yuh Jung took on the role of the older Sunja who moved to Japan after experiencing an unfortunate incident in South Korea.
Joining her is Lee Min Ho as a wealthy Japanese businessman named Koh Hansu, who first met Sunja in her earlier years.

Apart from the South Korean heartthrob, the "Pachinko" cast also includes rookie Korean actress Kim Min Ha, Anna Sawai from "Fast and Furious 9," "Devs and Love Life" star Jin Ha, Japanese actress Kaho Minami and more.
The upcoming Apple TV+ series is based on the multigenerational novel written by Min Jin Lee in 2017.
It depicts the challenges of four generations of Korean family who escaped their small fishing village to seek a good life in Japan during the 20th century.
"Pachinko" is set to be released on March 25 exclusively on Apple TV+ with eight episodes told in three languages - Japanese, Korean, and English.
