The much-awaited season 2 is still helmed by Lee Sang Yeob alongside screenwriters Song Jae Jung, Kim Yoon Joo, and Kim Kyung Ran.

While the first season focuses on Yumi's romance with the graphic designer Goo Woong, played by Ahn Bo Hyun, which she met on a blind date, "Yumi's Cells" season 2 will highlight her friends-to-lovers relationship with Yoo Bobby.

To recall, season 1 introduces GOT7 Jinyoung's character in the middle part of the season. He is the newbie assistant manager in the marketing department.

Some of the scenes showed off their initial encounter suggesting a different kind of friendship.

Interestingly, before the first season was released, director Lee Sang Yeob revealed that the webtoon-based series will have multiple seasons.

However, during his interview with Newsen in preparation for season 2, the filmmaker got honest and admitted that he feels pressure, especially since season 1 received rave reviews from the audience.

"I'd be lying if I said there wasn't any pressure, and as a fan of the webtoon, I worked on the drama with the thought of creating something I'd want to watch," he explained.

Meanwhile, screenwriter Song Jae Jung spoke about "Yumi's cells" season 2 and went on to describe it as a subtle "Sex in the City" since the upcoming sequel will display the characters' growth as compared to season 1's lovey-dovey theme.

"Season 2 will tell the story of Yoo Bobby and Yumi, which will be different from the relationship with Goo Woong," the writer explained.

For the "Yumi's Cells" season 2 cast, Ahn bo Hyun will reprise his role as Goo Woong. The same goes for Lee Yoo Bi as the office crush Ruby and Park Ji Hyun who took the character of Seo Sae Yi, Goo Woong's college friend turned officemate.
