Red Velvet Joy Transforms Into a Policewoman in 'A Country Diary'
Kakao Entertainment released a statement on May 26 announcing the confirmation of Red Velvet Joy's participation in the drama adaptation of the novel-based series "A Country Diary," also known as "Country Diary by Chance."
Park Soo Young a.k.a Joy of Red Velvet, has been cast as Ahn Ja Young, a police officer. The idol-actress, who is loved for her acting performance in various dramas will transform into a friendly police officer trusted by the villagers.
What We Know So Far About 'A Country Diary'
The drama tells the story of Han Ji Yul (played by Chu Young Woo), a Seoul native who works as a veterinarian and suddenly ends up living in Heedong rural village. He meets Ahn Ja Young, a rural police officer.

Based on the famous web novel, "A Country Diary" was loved by many for its healing story in which the two main characters grow their hearts by caring for each other's pain in a warm rural atmosphere.
The upcoming romance series plans to provide an overflowing of emotions depicting the joys and sorrows of people living in the said village. Director Kwon Seok Jang, who helmed "Bossam: Steal the Fate," "Avengers Social Club," and "Woman With A Suitcase," is in charge of the project. Meanwhile, writer Baek Eun Kyung will pen the script.
In addition, the filming will begin in earnest in the first half of 2022 and is expected to meet the viewers also this year.
This marks Joy's small screen comeback after JTBC's melodrama "The One and Only." "A Country Diary" is Joy's third lead drama role following "The Liar and His Lover" and "Tempted."
SNSD Sooyoung and Jang Geun Suk Declined To Star in 'A Country Diary'
Originally, the drama was first offered to SNSD Sooyoung and singer-actor Jang Geun Suk in the second half of 2021. However, the two declined the project due to conflict of schedules and personal reasons.
