"The Roundup," starring Ma Dong Seok, Son Seok Koo, and Choi Gwi Hwa, is continuing to break records after it made its premiere on May 18.

Despite the pandemic, the action crime film managed to reach the million mark in just days after it made a debut.

Now, "The Roundup," which is a sequel to the 2017 blockbuster movie "The Outlaws," is garnering another milestone.

'The Roundup' Exceeds 5 Million Moviegoers

According to a local media outlet, the film, directed by Kang Yoon Sung and Lee Sang Yong, scored a new achievement a week after it was released in theaters.

As noted by the Korean Film Council, "The Roundup" officially exceeded 5 million moviegoers on May 27.

In addition, "The Outlaws" sequel is now the first-ever movie to surpass the 5 million mark since the 2019 movie "Ashfall."

On top of it, Ma Dong Seok and Son Seok Koo's film was hailed as the fastest film to reach 3 million moviegoers since the Bong Joon Ho-directed film "Parasite" was released in 2019.

Adding to the list of "The Roundup" achievements, the action crime movie also set a new record for the biggest box office opening in South Korea during the pandemic.

The actor, who is also the producer of "The Roundup," took to social media to express his deep gratitude to fans and viewers.

Over Ma Dong Seok's Instagram, the 51-year-old star highlighted the movie's achievement despite the health crisis.

"For the first time since the pandemic, 'The Roundup' has surpassed 5 million viewers. Thank you!" he wrote.

In addition, he also thanked the actors who are part of the movie alongside a series of photos commemorating his co-stars.

"Our actors who appeared in "The Outlaws 2" beat the competition rate of 1500 vs. 1. They watched the audition for the 3rd and fourth round and passed."

Wrapping up his Instagram post, he also dedicated this, honoring the late veteran actor Nam Moon Chul.

"I pay tribute to the acting efforts of late actor Nam Moon Chul, who played the role of Choi Chun Baek."

To recall, the veteran actor passed away at the age of 50 in October 2021 due to chronic illness.

He was part of Kdramas such as "When My Love Blooms," "The Nokdu Flower," "Six Flying Dragons," and his last series, "Artificial City."

On the other hand, "The Roundup" will also be released in North America, Germany, and Asia like The Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, and more.
