Following the success of the rom-com series "Shooting Stars" with Lee Sung Kyung, the rising star is set to appear in his first-ever historical Kdrama.
Kim Young Dae Transforms as the King in 'Joseon's Ban on Marriage'
According to Newsen, the South Korean heartthrob confirmed his appearance in the upcoming MBC series.
After being in talks to headline the Kdrama, Kim Young Dae officially accepted the offer to play crown prince turned King of Joseon.
From being a top star in "Shooting Stars," the rising star transforms into the Joseon ruler named King Lee Heon in "Joseon's Ban on Marriage."
The upcoming historical Kdrama follows the story of the heir to the throne whose beloved wife died during his reign as the crown prince.
After seven years, due to the loss of a loved one, he couldn't easily move on despite the royal family and the government pushing the King to remarry.
As a result, the nation implemented a "geumhonryung" edict which basically means banning all single women from getting married, while King Lee Heon stayed single.
However, his life turned different when he met a woman named Ye So Rang. She claimed the spirit of his late wife lives within her.

From 'The Penthouse' to Lead Star Material
Best known for his role as Joo Seok Hoon, Joo Dan Tae (Uhm Ki Joon) and Shim Soo Ryeon's (Lee Ji Ah) son and Joo Seok Kyung's twin (Han Ji Hyun) in "The Penthouse," Kim Young Dae now stars in back to back series being the male lead.
During his recent interview, as noted by an outlet following the finale of "Shooting Stars" he confessed that he had some apprehensions about playing the main character.
He said that he feels pressure since he plays top star, Gong Tae Sung. For the actor, he shared that it might be because he "didn't have the experience yet" and was "awkward to act rather overbearing and brazen."
Thankfully, he was surrounded by his seniors, who helped him portray the character.
"Fortunately, the atmosphere on the set was so good that synergy was created. Thanks to the help of the people around me, I was able to adjust and act comfortably," he said.
Interestingly, he also mentioned that playing Gong Tae Sung would be a remarkable role for him because he was able to play "a light character" in "Shooting Stars."
