Several Korean actors are enlisting, while some are about to end their military journey. Idol-actors Kim Myung Soo (INFINITE) and Park Chanyeol (EXO) are expected to return before this year ends. Keep on reading for all the details.
What is Military Service in Korea?
Military service is mandatory in Korea. Male citizens are required to commit before they reach the age of 35. Even the busiest celebrities are no exception unless they have valid reasons that will exempt them, such as health condition.
Fortunately, this 2022, some fans are rejoicing as EXO's Chanyeol and INFINITE member Kim Myung Soo are confirmed to conclude their military service by the end of this year.
Kim Myung Soo To Be Discharged in August
Kim Myung Soo, widely known as L of the K-pop boy group INFINITE, entered the army last February 22, 2021.
According to his agency, after finishing the five-week basic training, the idol-actor immediately started his duty as an active soldier in the Marine Corps.
While serving the military, he had the chance to showcase his talent alongside EXO's Chanyeol and "Now We Are Breaking Up" actor Jang Ki Yong as they starred in the military musical "Meissa's Song."

Kim Myung Soo's last drama was with Kwon Nara and Lee Yi Kyung in tvN's "Royal Secret Agent," which premiered in December 2020 and concluded in February of 2021, just days before he entered the military.
EXO's Chanyeol To End Military Service in September
"The Box" actor and EXO member Chanyeol is the next Korean star to be discharged from the army. He joined the military service last March 29, 2021, and had a four-week training before he officially served as an active-duty soldier.
The "Memories of Alhambra" actor will be discharged by late September this year.
Chanyeol made an update on Instagram last May, where he shared snippets from his military break. Earlier this June, he surprised Doh Kyungsoo on the set of his upcoming drama by sending him a coffee truck.
Meanwhile, Park Bo Gum was also discharged from the mandatory military service in April and started his entertainment activities last May. He made his first public appearance when he hosted the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards.
