Netflix's "Carter" is an action-espionage film that transforms Joo Won into top-tier agent, Carter.
However, due to an unexpected incident, he wakes up without a single memory of his past. Lost in his identity, he follows orders to join a special mission.
Joo Won Purposely Beefs Up to Play Highly Skilled Agent in 'Carter'
As obtained by a South Korean media outlet, the actor revealed that he bulked up and gained over 7 kilograms to achieve the visuals perfect for his character.
Joo Won also mentioned that he underwent rigorous training for three to four months to prepare for action stunts.
Interestingly, viewers will get to see the 34-year-old actor doing high-level action, from death-defying stunts to motorcycle chases.
Discussing the film, Joo Won says there wasn't a single day where he didn't film action stunts, adding "there is no comparable work" with what he does in "Carter."
With his dedication and determination to portray his character, he definitely impressed "Carter" director Jung Byung Gil, who also helmed the movies "Action Boys," "Confession of Murder," and "The Villainess."

He described Joo Won as "the best actor" he had ever seen, adding that "the speed of understanding the action is fast. His natural visuals and lines are beautiful."
With Netflix continuing to tease fans with an intriguing teaser featuring Joo Woon as Carter, the upcoming movie is slated to premiere on August 5 exclusively on Netflix.
Joining the 34-year-old actor as a lead star are Lee Sung Jae from "Diary of a Prosecutor" and child actress Kim Bo Min, who also appeared in "The Silent Sea" and "The King: Eternal Monarch."
Joo Won Altered his Looks for 'Fatal Intuition'
Interestingly, this is not the first time Joo Won has had to adjust his body weight for a role.
In a 2015 interview, the actor revealed he gained 8 kilograms for the thriller mystery film "Fatal Intuition."
As obtained by an outlet, he shared how his weight fluctuate throughout the filming
"I first lost weight for the character, but I personally somewhat felt like I was getting further away from the character," he said, adding, " I thought that I actually would need to gain weight, so I exercised and also ate more."
For Joo Won, he emphasized that it was important to him to stay close to the character's image and had to prepare this before the production started.
"Whether it's the clothes, the hair, or the skin color, I need to create the state to become that role," he said.
Aside from bulking up for "Fatal Intuition," he also got a tan, noting that as his character is a "young man of the sea," he felt that his complexion needed to be darker to depict the character better.
