Im Siwan dishes out his surprising role in his latest movie, "Emergency Declaration."

The 33-year-old actor headlines the action-thriller movie, alongside the star-studded cast Lee Byung Hun, Song Kang Ho, Jeon Do Yeon, Kim Nam Gil, and more.

As cited by News 1 Korea, the actor spoke about his character in the movie where he played Ryu Jin Seok.

In an interview, Im Siwan discussed playing the villain Ryu Jin Seok in his comeback movie and dishes out the reason for accepting a completely different character. For the 33-year-old star, he says that the antagonist role has a lot of advantages and one of which is it gives him "more freedom" in acting.

"As an actor, taking on a villain gives you freedom. I think a lot about whether it's a role like that," he explained, adding, "As an actor, I can act more freely, and I think I may have a perception that it is a character that has the advantage of being able to act without a lot of restrictions."

Furthermore, admitted that there are "a lot" of expectations playing the antagonist in "Emergency Declaration"

"As a good character, there is a lot of anticipation that you have to protect and satisfy expectations relative to the villain," he added.

In the movie, Im Siwan'scharacter, Ryu Jin Seok, is among the flight passengers but turned out to be a terrorist.

The actor gained praise for his impressive performance, noting that he wasn't outshined by the fact that the movie boasts award-winning stars and veteran actors.

Interestingly, viewers gave him the nickname "'clear-eyed madman" for playing the villain.

As for the actor, he has seen a lot of reviewers, calling him by the moniker and sees it as a "compliment"

'Emergency Declaration' Hits 1 Million Mark at Korean Box Office

Helmed by "Money Game" director Han Jae Rim, "Emergency Declaration" made its premiere after being invited to the competition section of the 74th Cannes Film Festival.

However, it was only a year later that the movie had its theatrical release.

Officially released on August 3, "Emergency Declaration" hit its 1 million mark at the Korean box office less than four days after its debut.

Adding to the list of the movie's continued achievements, the star-studded film was also invited to Spain's Sitges Film Festival.

According to a report, the disaster-action film will participate in the Òrbita competition section of the Spanish film festival, slated for October 6 to 16.

The Sitges Film Festival focuses on thriller, fantasy, and horror films while the Òrbita section features movies "from genres bordering on the fantastic, such as thrillers, suspense, martial arts, action, adventure, etc."
