Sparks fly as Choo Young Woo teams up with Red Velvet's Joy in the new rom-com K-drama "Once Upon a Small Town."

The 23-year-old actor is among the main characters of the Kakao TV series while Baek Sung Chul plays the second lead. He takes the role of city-based veterinarian Han Ji Yul who temporarily moves to the countryside as instructed by his grandfather.

Struggling to cope with the new environment, Han Ji Yul meets the local female officer named Ahn Ja Young (Red Velvet's Joy) who used to be his childhood friend.

"Once Upon a Small Town" is Choo Young Woo's latest K-drama; however, he gained popularity after debuting in a BL web series "You Make Me Dance."

It was then followed by the 2021 series "Police University" where he was nominated for the "Best New Actor" award at the 2021 KBS Drama Awards.

In an interview with @star1 magazine, as Choo Young Woo and Baek Sung Chul grace September 2022 issue, the "Once Upon a Small Town" lead stars spoke about their on-screen chemistry and working relationship with Red Velvet's Joy.

As obtained by a media outlet, the 23-year-old rookie actor mentioned that he somehow could relate to Han Ji Yul's character.

He shared that he also experienced the challenging part of "adapted to life in the countryside" while filming the K-drama.

"At first, [filming] was hard and also scary because I never knew what the animals would do next," he said, adding that despite having a few bumps on the road, he eventually got used to it and "gradually" became familiar with the environment.

In addition, he also immersed himself by studying a lot for his role and meeting veterinary students.

In "Once Upon a Small Town," besides being the resident vet in Heedong village, he also spoke about his closeness with his female co-star.

He said that the Red Velvet member was like his "older sister" and would help him a lot on set, especially with "romantic acting."

"When I was physically exhausted or struggling, she would help me by becoming my mental coach," he added.

The same goes for Baek Sung Chul, who admitted that he was shy around new people, but the singer-actress made him feel comfortable on set.
