In her previous interview ahead of the drama's premiere, Kim Hye Soo revealed why she took the offer to play Queen Im Hwa Ryung.
As obtained by a media outlet, the award-winning actress shared that she is drawn to the character.
"Although she was not a real-life figure or [a role] typically seen in historical dramas, Hwa Ryung instantly captured my heart," she said, adding that she chose "Under the Queen's Umbrella" because of its "interesting story" and her "character's strength."
Moreover, she describes her character as a "woman with the strong power of love and is a character who gladly blocks and gets hit by rain and wind in order to protect those she loves."
In addition, Kim Hye Soo also pointed out that Queen Im Hwa Ryung is not a typical female royal.
Interestingly, this is her first historical project in 10 years after the 2013 film "The Face Reader."
Furthermore, "Under the Queen's Umbrella" also showcased the best of the best as it featured veteran actress Kim Hae Sook who also worked with Kim Hye Soo in "The Thieves."
