THIS ‘Gentleman’ Lead Star Admits Taking the Villain Role Because of Ju Ji Hoon

Veteran actor Park Sung Woong talks about his upcoming movie "Gentleman" and his team-up with co-star Ju Ji Hoon.

Gracing the press conference with director Kim Kyung Won and fellow lead stars Ju Ji Hoon, and Choi Sung Eun, the 49-year-old star spoke about his experience filming the movie and portraying the antagonist.

Park Sung Woong Accepted the Villain Role in 'Gentleman' Because of Ju Ji Hoon?

As obtained by a media outlet, Park Sung Woong revealed that he initially refused to play the villain after receiving the script.

The versatile star shared an interesting reason why he turned down the offer.

For Park Sung Woong, he said that he already played "so many villain roles." It includes taking the role of Hwang Deuk Goo, the man of absolute evil behind Argos in the 2020 K-drama "Rugal" opposite Choi Jin Hyuk.

As for his new movie "Gentleman", he mentioned the reason he decided to join the cast was because of Ju Ji Hoon.

"I rejected it at first because I played so many (villain) roles, but I brought up the story on the set of the movie 'Hunt' in which actor Joo Ji Hoon made a special appearance," he said, adding that it was the Hallyu star who convinced him to accept the offer.

"After listening to Joo Ji Hoon on set, I thought it would be good for the two of us to work together."

Moreover, the actor also mentioned that aside from his co-star, he also likes director Kim Kyung Won and Choi Sung Eun who starred in "Beyond Evil" and "The Sound of Magic."

Park Sung Woong and the "Kingdom star'' had a special appearance in the espionage film "Hunt" directed by Lee Jung Jae, where they both appear as Tokyo branch agents.

Interestingly, they got reunited for the upcoming movie "Gentleman" which depicts the story of Ji Hyun Soo, played by Ju Ji Hoon.

However, he disguised himself as a prosecutor to find his missing client. In the upcoming movie, viewers will get to see Ju Ji Hyun's transformation as a fearless detective who hunts down the possible culprit behind the case.

In a separate report, Director Kim Kyung Won shared why he offered the role to the top star.

The filmmaker said that he thought of Ju Ji Hoon since the beginning of writing the scenario.

Set to be released on December 28 in theaters, "Gentleman" will be the first original film presented by Wave.

Park Sung Woong's Upcoming Projects

Apart from "Gentleman" Park Sung Woong will headline the upcoming series "Unlock My Boss" with Chae Jong Hyeop and Seo Eun Soo and will be joining the cast of the new Netflix drama "Bloodhounds."
