Right before the highly-anticipated premiere, the upcoming movie "Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman" is getting criticism following the release of still cuts featuring BLACKPINK's Jisoo.
Following the surprising announcement of director Kim Sung Sik during the press conference, the upcoming film teased fans with a sneak peek of the singer-actress' cameo role.
'Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman' Accused of Plagiarizing Chinese Drama
In the new still cuts, "Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman" featured BLACKPINK Jisoo's new role as she transforms into a stunning fairy.

Donning a traditional hairstyle and white dress, the singer-actress excites fans with her breathtaking visuals.
With this, netizens flocked to Twitter and gushed over Jisoo's new role.

Unfortunately, not all were impressed with the still cuts for the forthcoming film "Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman."
As mentioned by users online, they noticed a resemblance between the character of Jisoo in the upcoming movie and the 2007 Chinese drama "The Fairies of Liaozhai."
In an online post, netizens posted a side-by-side photo of Jisoo's character and a still cut of "The Fairies of Liaozhai," played by Cecilia Liu.
Pointing out the similarities between the two characters, this sparked criticism, accusing "Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman" of plagiarizing the Chinese drama and cultural appropriation.
#JISOO This dress and style are too Chinese. I don't want to target Jisoo herself, but she will make others think this is Korean culture. Koreans have begun to appropriate the culture of other countries again. This is a very typical fairy shape from chinese mythology. pic.twitter.com/62y4vuvaxJ

Some of the comments include that they are not targeting Jisoo, but the team should have done extensive research regarding the costume design to avoid confusion like this.
It can be recalled that during the "Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman" press conference, Director Kim Sung Sik dropped a bombshell news announcing that Jisoo will have a special appearance in the movie. He said that what made him decide to cast the BLACKPINK member was after seeing her in "Snowdrop."
"Looking for an actor who would fit the image of a fairy, I came to think of Jisoo after watching her in 'Snowdrop'," the director said, adding that he also took consideration of the fans' sentiment and the actress' schedule.
Interestingly, this will be Jisoo's big-screen debut after her first major role on the small screen through the JTBC melodrama.
'Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman' Release Date
On the other hand, viewers will get to see the singer-actress' cameo as "Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman" is slated for September 27.

The upcoming movie stars Kang Dong Won as the fake exorcist named Dr. Cheon, who runs a YouTube channel dedicated to exorcism activities.
Although he doesn't have the ability to see ghosts, he believes it's all in the mind. However, she was a young girl who was possessed by an evil spirit.
Yoo Kyung, played by Esom, the older sister of the possessed individual, asked Dr. Cheon to save her sibling. Little did he know that this would turn his world upside down.
