The Sandman movie is shaping up to be quite the Neil Gaiman film, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt agreeing to direct and star in it. The hitRECord founder has confirmed through his Twitter account that he was indeed working on Sandman with writer-producer David Goyer, DC Comics parent company Warner Brothers, and Sandman author Neil Gaiman.
The super trio is all set now to collaborate on the much anticipated film adaptation. Written by Gaiman in the 90s, Sandman has become one of the most distinguished comic book series to ever come out. It is about the Lord of Dreams, Morpheus, who is essentially dreams personified, and his brothers and sisters called The Endless, consisting of Delirium, Death, Destruction, Destiny, Despair, and Desire.
Gordon-Levitt will directing the film, and is also up for a starring role in it. Goyer is in charge of the adaptation writing, while Gaiman will be acting as executive producer. Gordon-Levitt and Goyer have already worked together previously in the Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. The story was by Goyer with Christopher Nolan, while Gordon-Levitt acted in the movie as the character Blake.
This development came just after the success of Gordon-Levitt's directorial effort, Don Jon, which he also wrote and starred in. It premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, starring Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, and Tony Danza. The actor has long been trying his hand at directing short films before Don Jon. He directed the 24-minute Sparks, which appeared in the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, and Morgan and Destiny's Eleventeenth Date: The Zeppelin Zoo, which was shown at the 2010 South by Southwest Festival.
He is also well known for his roles as Arthur in Inception with Leonardo Dicaprio, and as Tom in 500 Days of Summer with Zooey Deschanel. He has been busy with his online collaborative production company, hitRECord, which enables artists all over the world to work on projects like books, and short films.
