Jo Byung Gyu Determined to Serve in Military Despite Re-Taking the Test Thrice
Jo Byung Gyu became the talk of the town for showing his strong will and desire to enlist as an active-duty soldier.
Like male celebrities born in 1995 and 1996, the actor is already preparing to exit from the spotlight to fulfill his military service.
Since it is mandatory for all men with Korean citizenship to serve in the army, they are also required to take a physical examination, to test their physical and psychological condition, which will determine their physical grades from Grades 1 to 6.
According to a source, Grades 1 through 3 result in active-duty service. Grade 4 lands to alternative civilian service. Grade 5 is reserved for public service workers, and exemptions start from Grade 6.
'Uncanny Counter' Star Expected to Enlist in 2024
Based on a news cited by a media outlet on December 14, Jo Byung Gyu took the test thrice. During his first physical examination when he was 20, he received a grade 4. Later on, he tried again and received Grade 7.
A Grade 7 meant he was rejected but subject to a reexamination, and Jo Byung Gyu planned to undergo a reexamination to enlist as an active-duty soldier.

Even though he still has some time before he reaches the enlistment age, the "SKY Castle" actor already decided to enter the camp in the second half or before 2024 ends, showing his strong desire to join the military.
Will Jo Byung Gyu Be Able To FulFill Active-Duty Service?
In addressing the issue and to give his fans a follow-up for his forthcoming military service, Jo Byung Gyu's agency released a statement announcing that the actor had received a Grade 3 and was planning on going to the army but that his physical grade had changed recently.
In addition, HB Entertainment revealed that the K-drama star was planning on getting treatment so he could immediately pass the test. Once Jo Byung Gyu has already passed the exam, he will finally start his military journey as an active-duty soldier.
Jo Byung Gyu rose to stardom following his brilliant performances in the hit series "Sky Castle," "Hot Stove League," and "Uncanny Counter."
The actor broke his hiatus this 2023 following a controversy in 2020. He made his drama comeback with "Uncanny Counter" Season 2, reprising his role as So Mun.
