The award-winning actor, whose popularity rose through "Squid Game," might face prison time due to charges of indecent assault in 2022.
Oh Young Soo Faces Jail Sentence for Sexual Harassment
In an update cited by local media outlets, prosecutors at the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District requested that the Emmy Award winner face a jail sentence of 1 year for sexually harassing a woman back in 2017.
To recall, the news broke in December 2021 after a victim filed a complaint stating that Oh Young Soo inappropriately touched her body.
Following a series of investigations, authorities closed the case in April 2022 but started another investigation after the woman appealed to the court.
In November of the same year, the veteran actor was indicted on indecent assault charges.
At the time, Oh Young Soo had counterclaims, saying that he only "held her hand to guide the way around the lake."
Moreover, the actor apologized to the victim, adding that the woman claimed that she "wouldn't make a fuss about it."
However, Oh Young Soo emphasized at that time that, amid his claims, "it doesn't mean that I admit the charges."
It can be recalled that at the time that the woman filled her complaint, the Netflix series created a huge craze, making it the platform's biggest TV show yet.
In addition, the "Squid Game" cast is gaining popularity globally, raking in various recognitions both locally and internationally.
As for Oh Young Soo, he was hailed as the Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Limited Series, or TV Movie at the Golden Globe 2022.
He was able to beat "The Morning Show" stars Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass, Kieran Culkin of "Succession," and Brett Goldstein of "Ted Lasso."
Moreover, he is also the first South Korean actor to win a Golden Globe award.
