In a report cited by local media outlets, the South Korean A-lister is grieving following the loss of his father.

Gong Yoo's Father Dies at 78

Management SOOP mentioned in an official statement that "Gong Yoo's father passed away on February 5."

Moreover, the label also mentioned that his mortuary is at Asan Hospital's funeral hall.

As for the actor and his family, they are "currently in the wake of sorrow."

Meanwhile, the report also stated that the funeral of Gong Yoo's father, who died at the age of 78, is scheduled for February 8 and will be laid to rest in Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province.

Gong Yoo is a prominent actor in South Korea who is best known for his hit K-dramas such as "Coffee Prince" and Goblin."

International fans also knew him from the K-zomvie movie "Train to Busan," where he played the role of dotting father Seok Woo.

Amid the passing of Gong Yoo's father, the actor is set to return to the small screen with an interesting K-drama.

Joining Gong Yoo is another K-drama A-lister, Seo Hyun Jin, as they headline the novel-based mystery drama.

Helmed by Kim Kyu Tae of the hit series "IRIS," "That Winter, the Wind Blows," "It's Okay, That's Love," and "Our Bues," Gong Yoo's new drama depicts the story of mysterious secrets and unforeseen events surrounding a bizarre trunk found in the depths of a lake.

Gong Yoo takes on the role of Jung Won, who works as a music producer and whose life is filled with loneliness and anxiety.

However, his life will change drastically after meeting Noh In Ji, played by Seo Hyun Ji.

She is an employee who works for a matchmaking organization called NM. "The Trunk" featured how the duo ended up finding themselves in an unexpected marriage contract.

As mentioned, the upcoming novel-based series will join a slew of upcoming K-dramas airing on Netflix this year.

Gong Yoo's new drama "The Trunk" is scheduled to broadcast in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Drama officials are yet to confirm the exact release date, but the upcoming romance series is surely worth the wait.

Interestingly, other than "The Trunk," Gong Yoo is also set to appear in another highly anticipated Netflix K-drama.

Replacing his role as the salesman, the A-lister joins season 1 cast members Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, and Wi Ha Joon in the upcoming sequel.

"Squid Game" season 2 also featured new cast members like Park Gyu Young, Im Siwan, Won Ji An, Lee Jin Wook, Kang Ha Neul, and more.
