K-Media Reporter Unsatisfied With Song Joong Ki's New Film 'My Name is Loh Kiwan'

In a news release on February 27, a Korean reporter shared her sentiments over Song Joong Ki's movie "My Name is Loh Kiwan."

A reporter from Maeil Kyungie, Han Hyun Jang criticized the upcoming film and mentioned the disappointing aspects of the actor's new work.

In her review, Reporter Han said that if you are not a fan of the male lead, she would not recommend watching "My Name is Loh Kiwan." She also described the film as a "tiring non-healing romance movie."

"My Name is Loh Kiwan" features the story of Kiwan, a North Korean defector. After he came to Belgium, he struggled to be recognized as a refugee. During his journey, he meets Marie, a wandering woman who lost the reason for her life.

Han said that Song Joong Ki successfully expresses Kiwan's despair of surviving and the deep emotions towards Marie. However, his acting playing a North Korean defector has its ups and downs.

Even though the movie heralded Song Joong Ki's breakthrough transformation, his acting does not feel as new, said the reporter.

Romance Between Song Joong Ki & Choi Sung Eun Fell Short?

Reporter Han also mentioned Choi Sung Eun's performance. She elaborated:

"Sung Eun displayed a unique girl crush charm in the movie 'Start-Up,' she presents a darker version of herself in this movie. She also shows stable melodrama chemistry with Song Joong Ki playing Marie who gave up her life after losing her mother."

Han Hyun Jang added that there are still limitations to the character's narrative, which she said made the last part of the story less interesting. According to her, the more mystery revealed, the less attractive the character and the story become.

The reporter said that the movie's melodrama genre falls far short of expectations. She mentioned that even though the characters have a heartwarming and romantic story, the cast only portrays the desperate setting in a lengthy manner.

"There is no tension. It is not even touching as it leads from a weak ending to a sudden ending."

Han concluded her review by saying:

"Romance that should be a ray of light amid desperate pain collapsed, which made the latter part dull. The movie's background also does not fit the current era and is boring."

Meanwhile, "My Name is Loh Kiwan" will finally meet the viewers this March 1 on Netflix.
