In a startling turn of events, the notorious figure at the center of the K-movie "Hope," which delves into the sensitive subject of child sexual assault, has once again found himself behind bars.

The movie, known for its raw portrayal of a harrowing true story, has resurfaced in discussions following recent developments in the case.

K-Movie 'Hope' Based on Real Events of 'Na Young's Case'

"Hope" is receiving attention among viewers after the convicted child rapist has been placed behind bars again this 2024.

The movie "Hope" is based on the real-life story of an eight-year-old girl aka Na Young who was a victim of rape. The tragedy happened in December 2008 when Na Young was on her way to school and was kidnapped by 57-year-old Jo Du Sun, who was said to be drunk at that time.

Jo Du Sun raped and beat Na Young at a public squat toilet. The child had injuries to her internal organs. Thankfully, she was rushed to the hospital and survived the incident. Jo Du Sun was arrested and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

After it was reported on multiple news outlets, the case sparked outrage, and people, including the victim's parents, made a move to protest.

The film, directed by Lee Joon Ik, was released in 2013. Its narrative evoked a wide range of emotions as viewers sympathized with Na Young's devastating incident.

Its cast members are Lee Re, Sol Kyung Gu, and Uhm Ji Won. With their outstanding performances, they immediately captivated the audience and gave justice to their respective characters.

The director turned the movie into a source of hope for Na Young and other victims of sex crimes. Lee Joon Ik highlighted what happened after the incident, and showed in the film how life is good and worth living again despite the tragedy.

Korea's Most Notorious Child Rapist Jo Du Sun Returns in Jail After Violating His Curfew

Meanwhile, Jo Du Sun, also known as the most notorious child rapist in South Korea, was put in prison again on March 18, 2024, after receiving a three-month term for wandering outside his home at night. He violated the curfew imposed on him.

Jo Du Sun spent 12 years in jail for kidnapping and assaulting an eight-year-old girl in 2008. He was free in December 2020 and started a new life in Ansan amid the strong protests from his neighbors.

Unfortunately, in December 2023, Jo was reported again for leaving his house and strolling for almost 40 minutes, violating his curfew from going out after 9 p.m.
