Kim Bum dishes on his honest opinion about starring in rom-com K-dramas and reveals the reason why he prefers not to focus on this genre at the moment.
The South Korean actor headlined a slew of romantic comedy series during his early years as an actor. Among which is the iconic remake "Boys Over Flowers" with Goo Hye Sun, Lee Min Ho, Kim Hyun Joong, and Kim Joon.
Interestingly, he also proved his versatility as an actor in melodramas and romance series such as "That Winter, the Wind Blows," "Padam Padam," and even comedy K-dramas like "Ghost Doctor."
However, it seemed like fans wouldn't be seeing Kim Bum in a rom-com anytime soon.
Here's Why Kim Bum Thinks Rom-Com K-dramas Are Not for Him
In the behind-the-scenes video uploaded by Kim Bum's agency, King Kong by Starship, he was asked about his plans on returning to rom-coms.
A staff member told the actor that fans are looking forward to seeing him in a rom-com, but instead of expressing excitement, Kim Bum claimed that the genre doesn't work for him.
However, he revealed the reason why he couldn't do rom-coms anymore.
"No, I think it's easier to play the role of killing people. Why didn't I act like this for ten years? I get it again. I don't know how to express my face."
As for his fans and netizens, they still believe that Kim Bum was born to play lead characters, especially in rom-coms.
What's Next for Kim Bum?
The South Korean star had a fruitful year in 2023. From his return to the small screen through the highly anticipated sequel, "Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938," Kim Bum is booked and busy with multiple projects and activities.
Other than the actor reprising his role as Lee Rang in the fantasy series with Lee Dong Wook and Kim So Yeon, he was also busy touring around Asia for his fan meet.
The 2023 Kim Bum Asia Fan Meet titled "Between Us and Me" happened in the second half of the year, where he visited his fans in Malaysia, the Philippines, and more.
Interestingly, Kim Bum surprised viewers with his special cameo in "Wedding Impossible," which stars Jeon Jong Seo, Moon Sang Min, and Kim Do Wan.
Taking on the role of CEO Bin Tae Hwan in episode 12, he played the love interest of Bae Yoon Kyung, who played the role of an heiress.
