'The Atypical Family' Drops Jang Ki Yong's Character Stills

"I Am Not a Hero," also known as "The Atypical Family," is JTBC's upcoming superhero drama, ready to hit the small screen this May.

As a teaser for its much-awaited release, the production dropped new stills of its lead actor Jang Ki Yong, introducing his interesting character. He delves into the role of a time traveler who lost his powers due to depression.

The photos unveiled the contrasting persona of Bok Gwi Ju, to be played by the heartthrob, who is longing to return to his happy memories.

The fantasy-romance series follows the story of a man with unique abilities who couldn't save anyone until he rescues his destined one. It is a narrative filled with warmth and laughter, centering on a man's struggle with a modern-day era that costs him his power and a woman who becomes entangled in his life by fate.

The stills showcased an intriguing transformation of Jang Ki Yong's character.

Bok Gwi Ju can only travel to moments of happiness but can't change the past. All he can do is remember those memories. His decision to become a firefighter is rooted in a desire to use his powers to save others, and not himself.

The next picture hinted at his drastic change, exhibiting a face marked by unexplainable sadness and a gaze filled with emptiness, showcasing the hard times he's endured.

Jang Ki Yong Excited For His New Drama

The drama's main protagonist, Jang Ki Yong, shared his thoughts about the drama.

"The narrative of a man losing his powers due to a common modern-day illness felt refreshingly new. I was excited to work with such a talented team. It is also my first project after the military, so I had a mix of excitement and anticipation."

He added that even though the series centers around superpowers, it is also a story about family that he hopes everyone will look forward to enjoying watching.

"The Atypical Family" is helmed by "SKY Castle" director Jo Hyun Tak, and penned by Ju Hwa Mi, the mind behind the romance series "Marriage, Not Dating," alongside "Dr. Romantic" writer Kang Eun Kyung.

This marks Jang Ki Yong's small screen comeback following his military hiatus. Joining him in the drama are Chun Woo Hee, Claudia Kim, Ko Do Shim, Soo Hyun, Park So Yi, Oh Man Seok, and Jung Min A.

"I Am Not a Hero" is scheduled air on May 4 through JTBC at 10:30 p.m. (KST) and will have its regular broadcast every Saturday and Sunday.
