'Missing Crown Prince' Episode 1: Lee Gun Sneaks Out of the Palace

Set in the backdrop of Joseon, a group of assassins infiltrated the palace. The royal physician, Choi Sang Rok, checked on the royal's highness' health. He advised her to rest and assured her to return with a new medicine to ease her discomfort.

Trouble escalated as the armed assassins attacked the palace. The king was rushed inside, but the intruders made their way there too, led by a former royal guard who sought revenge for the deposed king.

Fortunately, the king was saved, thanks to Choi Sang Rok. Amid the chaos in the palace, they found out that crown prince Lee Gun was missing and escaped

Lee Gun was out of the palace with his stepbrother Do Sung (Kim Min Kyu). They encountered a con man pretending to be an exiled prince. He exposed the con artist and reported it to the authorities.

Unfortunately, he was punched in the face and needed to wear makeup to hide it from his parents.

Lee Gun Forced To Marry Choi Myung Yoon

When Lee Gun returned, he was scolded by his father for slipping outside. Rumors spread that the crown prince often sneaked out to meet women. Some ministers question his suitability as crown prince.

Believing that their son went out to visit a courtesan house, the Queen Dowager suggested finding him a crown princess to keep him from going outside.

She suggested Choi Sang Rok's daughter, Choi Myung Yoon (Hong Ye Ji), who is suitable for Lee Gun. The crown prince wanted to share his opinion but his parents stopped him and forced him to get married.

Choi Myung Yoon Declines the Arranged Marriage

Choi Myung Yoon, who is known in their place as a great physician, was told by her father about the arranged marriage.

Unfortunately, an old sage told Sang Rok that his daughter was destined to bring disaster and become a young widow if she married the crown prince.

Myung Yoon learned about the crown princess' job inside the palace, which came with lots of restrictions and decided not to marry Lee Gun. But her father is determined to bring her to the palace and will do everything to make it happen.

She was skeptical of her father as he was planning something tragic that he'd regret so decided to stop him.

Lee Gun Discovers His Mother's Affair

Back in the palace, trouble arose after Lee Gun found a dead body at the royal pond. The autopsy declared that it was suicide, but he didn't believe it. He was sure that foul play happened, so he decided to investigate.

As Lee Gun searched for the truth, he discovered that the Queen Dowager was having an affair with a palace's physician, as hinted by a needle case left at the scene.

He went out of the palace to search but was kidnapped by a group of men.
