Wi Ha Joon talked about his career and the number of positive responses he got after joining the hit Netflix K-drama "Squid Game."

The South Korean heartthrob appeared as a guest on Hong Seok Cheon's YouTube channel, Jewel Box, where he candidly talked about his childhood experience, career growth, and plans for the future.

Wi Ha Joon made his acting debut in 2015, where he played the role of young Uhm Tae Goo in "Coin Locker Girl."

His acting career continued, and he appeared in supporting roles in various dramas and movies, which included "Something in the Rain," "Matrimonial Chaos," and more.

Wi Ha Joon had his first main lead role through the 2019 K-drama "Romance Is a Bonus Book" with Lee Jong Suk and had his big break through the Netflix K-drama "Squid Game."

Wi Ha Joon Says He is More Popular With Men

According to the actor, he wasn't popular during his school days.

As mentioned by a media outlet, Wi Ha Joon shared during his guesting on Hong Seok Cheon's YouTube channel that it was "very quiet."

However, although he wasn't famous among the girls, he was "always popular with men" and had the same experience during his military service.

"I played 'Squid Game' overseas and was loved by so many men. I was curious as to why my charm appealed to me," he added.

As for Hong Seok Cheon, he thought that Wi Ha Joon "has really sexy Asian eyes," and his "masculine face" is one of his strongest features.

Wi Ha Joon Initially Wanted to Become an Idol

The South Korean heartthrob also mentioned his childhood dream, which was to be an idol. While some celebrities debuted as K-pop stars first, then as actors or actresses, Wi Ha Joon dreamed of joining the music industry.

According to him, he has been into dancing since he was young.

"I liked acrobatics and b-boying. While I was in a dance club, I had a dream of being in an idol group."

Interestingly, what made him change his mind was when he visited Japan.

"I came to Tokyo and did something, and when I started learning acting, I became an actor."

After his big breakthrough, "Squid Game," Wii Ha Joon appeared in back-to-back K-dramas and movies.

From the protagonist's roles in "Bad and Crazy" and "Little Women" to the villain character in "The Worst of Evil," the 32-year-old actor delivered an amazing performance, showing his flexibility as an actor.

Interestingly, Wi Ha Joon is currently starring in the romance K-drama "The Midnight Romance in Hagwon," where he couples up with Jung Ryeo Won.

Wi Ha Joon's new drama airs every Saturday and Sunday via TVN, TVING, and Viki.
