Ji Sung Dishes on His Notable Transformation in ‘Connection’: ‘I lost 15kg of weight…’

Ji Sung shares the preparations he made and the experience of filming his K-drama comeback, "Connection."

Ahead of the highly anticipated release, the top star graced the stage along with co-stars Jeon Mi Do, Kwon Yul, Kim Kyung Nam, Jung Soon Won, Jung Yoo Min, Cha Yeob, and Lee Kang Wook, along with director Kim Moon Kyo, at the press conference.

Ji Sung, who looked dapper in an all-black outfit, opens up about the adjustments he made to play a challenging role.

After two years since the thriller mystery K-drama "Adamas," the top star returns with an interesting K-drama where he plays the role of Jang Jae Kyung, a detective turned drug addict.

One of the things he shared during the "Connection" press conference is how he immersed to the role of Jang Jae Kyung.

Ji Sung Sheds 15 Kg of Weight for 'Connection'

In a report, Ji Sung revealed that, other than getting to know his character more, he made sure to look for the part and shed off weight to appear like a drug addict.

"To portray a drug addict, I first lost weight externally. I gained up to 85 kg while raising a child, but I felt like I needed to be thin for my character, so I lost about 15 kg."

Furthermore, the actor mentioned that his stamina dropped after the sudden weight loss, but instead, he used this as a factor to portray Jang Jae Kyung.

In the upcoming K-drama, Jang Jae Kyung used to be an ace detective of the narcotics team at Anhyeon Police Station.

However, he turned out to be addicted to drugs after someone forced him to become one when he got kidnapped.

As he discussed more about his role, Ji Sung confessed that he initially had apprehensions about playing the character in "Connection."

"Before filming, I had a lot of worries about how I would act differently from my previous works, but I had a different energy. I felt like I had it, and the setting of a narcotics detective addicted to drugs was fun."

'Connection' Cast and Release Date

"Connection" is an upcoming psychological crime investigation thriller that depicts the story of Jang Jae Kyung, who was forcibly addicted to drugs.

Joining him is Jeon Mi Do, who takes on the character of outspoken reporter Oh Yoon Jin and was also Jae Kyung's former classmate.

Their unexpected reunion sparks an alliance as they take part in an incident.

Viewers will get to see the duo's on-screen chemistry as "Connection" premieres on May 24 at 10 p.m. KST via SBS.
