SBS just introduced the newest crime-thriller K-drama, "Connection," starring Ji Sung and Jeon Mi Do.
Replacing the makjang series "The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection," the weekend show follows the story of an ace detective, Jang Jae Kyung, who works for Anhyeon Police Station's drug task force. He is known as someone who values his principles, which is why his colleagues see him as a role model.
However, his career begins to crumble after he becomes a drug addict. It is after Jang Jae Kyung gets held captive by a syndicate as a form of revenge, and where he is forced to use illegal substances.
In hopes of making things right and getting back on track, he gets involved with a female reporter, Oh Yoon Jin, played by Jeon Mi Do of "Hospital Playlist" and "Thirty-Nine."
'Connection' Episode 1 Rating: Crime Series Achieves Impressive Viewership
"Connection" Episode 1 scored an impressive viewership rating of 5.7% nationwide and 6.1% in metropolitan areas, as cited by Nielsen Korea.
It is a close fight between Kim Hee Sun's new drama "Bitter Sweet Hell," which garnered an average nationwide rating of 6.0%.
'Connection' Episode 1: Jang Jae Kyung Falls Into the Syndicate's Trap
The episode began by showcasing how dedicated Jang Jae Kyung was to his mission as he conducted a merciless arrest operation, together with his team at Anhyeon Police against drug dealer syndicates and their financiers.
In addition to this, his team was going after the leader of the Ogeomi faction, who was among the most wanted drug leaders.
Detective Jang and the team were able to catch the leader of the faction after shooting his left Achilles tendon. It was also the same thing that the suspect did to Jang Jae Kyung's teammate, whom the leader attacked.
Due to the successful mission, Detective Jang was promoted and became the station's new chief.
After he and his team had a celebration, he received a text message from his former high school classmate sending him codes about SOS.
Jang Jae Kyung found himself being attacked by a gunman in the bathroom and was held captive for three days.
He was found by his colleague at the train station but was too weak to recall what had happened to him.
However, as he was trying to remember the incident, Jang Jae Kyung found a yellow pill, which is a type of drug.
Realizing a bit of recollection from his memory, he received a video that showed him being high on drugs. He was shocked to learn that he had become addicted to the yellow pill, but he decided that no one should know about his situation.
Jang Jae Kyung tried to call his friend Park Jun Seo, but learned from a fellow police officer that he had died.
