Cha Tae Hyun opened up about his career and his relationship with his mother.
Known for his versatility, the 48-year-old actor captured the hearts of viewers with his iconic roles throughout the 2000s to present. He is iconic for his 2001 movie "My Sassy Girl," followed by "Miracle of Giving Fool" in 2008, "The Greatest Divorce" in 2018, and "Police University" in 2021.
He also stole the hearts of viewers with his amazing portrayal of theater actor turned bus driver Jeon Gye Do in "Moving."
After the hit webtoon-based K-drama, which aired in 2023, Cha Tae Hyun has been active on TV shows, appearing as hosts for various programs.
During his appearance in SBS Power FM's "Cultwo Show," the top star spoke out on why he envies his mother when it comes to career.
Cha Tae Hyun Reveals Being Jealous of His Mother
In one episode, Cha Tae Hyun mentioned his mother, Choi Soo Min, who is active in the industry as a voice actor and actress.
According to the actor, he is the "most envious" of his mother because she gets to work alongside top-notch directors and gets more projects than he does.
"She is also working as an actress and is working with a director I really want to work with."
Choi Soo Min is currently filming the much-anticipated sequel "The Fiery Priest" Season 2 with Kim Nam Gil, Honey Lee, and Kim Sung Kyun.
She was also part of Im Soo Jung's drama "Search: WWW."
In addition to this, Cha Tae Hyun's mother is also part of Shin Hye Sun and Lee Jin Wook's drama "To My Harry."
Expressing his honest thoughts, Cha Tae Hyun couldn't help but feel jealous of his mother being booked and busy with multiple projects.
"I want to work with directors like that. But my mom gets everything. Please introduce me. It's frustrating.
It's not the time for me to be here like this. I have to follow my mom around and meet the directors."
As for the recognitions, he mentioned that he used to look forward to getting nominated and receiving awards at the end of the year. For him, it's a sign that he worked hard.
"I have so many trophies at home, but these days, I don't have any. Receiving them at the end of the year means that I worked hard all year, but I don't have any."
In 2023, at the time when "Moving" and his big screen comeback "Puppy" were released, Cha Tae Hyun bagged the Popularity Award selected by the cinematographer at the 43rd Golden Cinema Film Festival for his role as Jin Gook in the adventure comedy film "My Heart Puppy."
Meanwhile, he is currently part of the TV show "Jjinfan Zone" with Jo Se Ho, Kim Tae Kyun, and more.
