Lee Seung Gi is in hot water for his alleged involvement in his father-in-law's scandal, and the recently released statement added fuel to the fire.

On June 16, Lee Seung Gi was in hot water after some media reported news about the stock manipulation case involving his father-in-law, Im Young Gyu. 

It has been said that the actor is under fire and receiving backlash not only because of the scandal but mainly for the statement released alongside his label Big Planet Made Entertainment. 

According to the source, after the news was revealed that the Supreme Court retracted their previous verdict and found Lee Seung Gi's father-in-law and his accomplices guilty of high stock price manipulation, the agency stated:

"We sincerely ask you to leave the family alone. Mr. Lee Seung Gi is currently doing his best at being the head of the household, father, husband, and son-in-law. His mother and father-in-law have become grandparents.

The incident happened before the actor got married, and it is something their family members need to resolve. We are writing this to inform you that even stricter legal measures will be taken if we see fake news or malicious comments against Lee Seung Gi or his family."

Netizens Comment on Lee Seung Gi's Involvement In His Father-in-Law's Scandal

Even though it looked like a run-of-the-mill statement requesting respect and privacy for the celebrity in question, netizens have problems not only with the timing but the power abuse of the actor's celebrity status.

Netizens said:

• "We can't talk about the family's wrongdoings because they are now related to Lee Seung Gi?."
• "What about the victims of the stock manipulation? Is there no apology for them?"

Furthermore, legal reports released on June 16 stated that Im Young Gyu and his three accomplices were indicted for alleged stock price manipulation under the Capital Markets Act and were caught after allegedly receiving about 1.6 million USD (2.3 billion KRW) by artificially inflating their public company's stocks for two years from 2014 to 2016.

With this ongoing scandal, Lee Seung Gi's name is being dragged and fans are angry with the actor for releasing statements and some harshly commented that they hope the male star never returns to the spotlight.
