Lee Je Hoon's movie "Escape" teased fans with still cuts featuring Song Kang.
Following his enlistment, the South Korean heartthrob joined the action film as a special guest.
Marking his last project before enlistment, Song Kang captivated netizens with his exuding charm, looking dapper in a sleek suit.
Song Kang To Make Cameo in Lee Je Hoon's 'Escape'
In a report, "Escape" welcomes Song Kang for a cameo role, raising curiosity among viewers as he takes on the character of Seon Woo Min.
According to the film's director, Lee Jong Pil, who also helmed "Samjin Company English Class" and "One Day Off," Song Kang's character plays a pivotal role as security team officer Hyun Sang, portrayed by Goo Kyo Hwan.
"We needed a character to show the past that could give us an idea of Hyun Sang's inner self, conflicts, and concerns."
He referred to Seon Woo Min's connection with Hyun Sang before he became an officer of the National Security Agency.
In addition to this, the director of "Escape" revealed what motivated them to cast the K-drama hearthrob for a special role.
Moreover, director Lee Jong Pil mentioned that Song Kang is a perfect fit to play the role of Seo Woo Min.
"Actor Song Kang's face contains many narratives and stories. So, I think he is the best actor for the character who has to tell us about the relationship with Hyun Sang."
'Escape' Cast, Release Date
The upcoming movie focuses on North Korean soldier Gyu Nam (Lee Je Hoon) and his pursuit to escape his country.
Seeking freedom, he dreams of living a life with a future and plans on escaping to South Korea.
However, in his attempts to flee the barbed-wire fence at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), he was stopped by security team major Hyun Sang.
Due to his decision to abandon his country, he is at risk of execution.
Interestingly, major Hyun Sang was able to recognize Kyu Nam from childhood and was able to transform Gyu Nam from a deserter to a hero by saving a boy's life.
Other than Lee Je Hoon, the "Escape" cast also includes rookie actor Hong Xa Bin as Dong Hyuk, Shin Dong Hyeon, and Esom.
The upcoming movie will also be her reunion project with Lee Je Hoon after working together in the hit K-drama "Taxi Driver."
Meanwhile, fans will get to see "Escape," as it will officially debut in theaters on July 3, 2024.
Where is Song Kang Now?
While "Escape" marks Song Kang's last on-screen appearance, the actor is serving in the military after enlisting in April 2024.
Prior to his enlistment, the "My Demon" star penned a sweet message to his fans, whom he calls "SONGPYEON."
"I'm finally going! SONGPYEON who has loved me since my debut in 2017 and even after that! I think I am who I am because you are always there."
He added that there are so many things that he "feels grateful for."
